Replacement filters for Fresh Flow Purifying Pet Fountains can be hard to find, so I recommend buying several here at Amazon.com. They use charcoal filters to keep the water fresh. Replace filter every 60 to 90 days for usage by one animal (sometimes I cheat and clean them off for an extra month). They are required to keep all the dust and small bugs that get into the water bowl.

I don't think they do a very good job because there are always little specks floating in the bowl that do not seem to be filtered out.
Warning: If you are buying for the first time, BE SURE to run cold water over the filters before putting them in your cat fountain. Otherwise, your water will become very dirty with charcoal.

My cat and dog love this fountain. The only problem I have found is that in all three fountains I have purchased, the on/off switch goes bad within about 6 months. The last one I bought, I didn't use the switch but just unplugged the cord from the wall when I needed to clean it. It still broke.
The fountain keeps water clean and cool. It has encouraged my cat to drink a lot more than he use to with just a bowl of water. I would recommend the fountain but keep in mind about the switches. You may need to replace them often like I do.

The filters are a necessity if you have the pump. I have it & my two dogs & cat all drink from, now that they've gotten used to it. However when I first looked to replace the filter I checked out Amazon first. Shockingly expensive shipping for something I could almost hide in my hand; luckily I checked out the company website before ordering from here.
Simply go to Petmate dot com, click on Replacement parts, scroll down & click on Feeding & Watering (parts), and it's ... "24999 DELUXE FRESH FLOW FILTERS-2 PK - FITS ALL DELUXE FRESH FLOW, COOL FLOW & FRESH FLOW MODELS - $3.91"
The shipping is reasonable; I ordered 3 packs of two & shipping was just $3.52 for a total of $15.25.
As I said in the title, the filters are great. I hope this helps some one save money. Sorry Amazon, you're great on books & stuff, but not this.

The stock filters are not very efficient. I've found that if you go to your pet store and get some activated charcoal, like the kind ya use for a fish tank filter, then cut a slit in the top of the pet mate filter, filling up with this charcoal...rinse it, then use in the pet mate filter, efficiency and longevity are greatly improved.
