Designed for long-term installationJun 13, 2008

I bought this item because we were taking our dogs camping for the first time and needed a way to restrain the larger one (70 lbs). I looked for a cabling system that would provide the somewhat energetic dog plenty of room to get around, but make it difficult for him to get himself wrapped up around something. I had seen these dog trolleys before, and at around $21 after shipping, I found a good bargain on Amazon.
My biggest complaint about the device is that the hardware and instructions intend you to drill holes into the trees to screw in hooks, which is prohibited at the state park. A better method is to tie the cable around the tree, which isn't too difficult with the given hardware.
Two cable clamps are included which can tighten the cable around one tree, and an attached turnbuckle provides plenty of final tensioning at the other end. A much easier solution would've been the inclusion of a ratcheting device, without having to wrestle with tightening the nuts on the clamps with an adjustable wrench while trying to pull the cable tight.
Once set up, the cable remained rigid. The pulley is of good construction, and the clips are pretty solid. The dog occasionally walks around one of the trees and wraps himself tight, but setting the trolley cable at 6-7 ft off the ground prevents him from going around more than once, and he easily figures his way back around. Also, fifty feet of cable provides plenty of room to roam, and if you don't cut the cable, contrary to the directions, you have a robust solution for restraining your dog at multiple locations.

Terrific product!Jun 23, 2008

Very easy to install; we used the existing hooks in our house and garage originally installed for the laundry line. Our medium-sized dog is neither aggressive nor a 'puller', so this size trolley works well to keep him outside with the family. He has plenty of room to move and explore, yet is amply contained and safe.

Great itemJan 03, 2011
By Pet lover This was easy to put up, I did it with little help in the snow. It works really great. I had looked all over for one of these, and Amazon was the only place I could find one. My dog just loves it. I have added a second leash to give him more running space.
Kinda CheapJul 30, 2011

Thought this was a great deal until I received it and found that the pulley assembly is completely made of plastic that is sure to break soon and the clasp's are rusting and are very hard to open by next spring I am sure I will need to buy a better quality dog run
Overly complicatedNov 23, 2010

The instructions that come with this are impractical. You'll end up Rube-Goldbering this item to your needs rather than installing as instructed. I don't know why they bother with the pulley at all- the 10ft leash with its metal "loop" connector things slides just fine across the 50ft line, no pulley needed. The 50ft cord comes with no ends on it whatsoever, you need tools to hook it to the included clamps, I wish the 50ft had the same ends as the 10ft cord and this would be perfect.
