I like the design of the Aqua Clear 50 filter that these inserts fit. I can change the carbon without taking out the filter media (sponge) and thus keep the bacterial balance. With the all-in-ones, like Aqua Tech, when you remove the filter media, you remove pretty much the whole bacterial colony. I plan to change the carbon every other month and leave the sponge and the BioMax rings in my filter longer as they will keep beneficial bacteria and have longer useful lives than the carbon whose ability to absorb toxins is limited.
Easy to use & does a good job.Feb 27, 2012
By Granny9 Our tank has been much clearer since switching to a filtering system that uses Aquaclear products...just remember to change them when you should.
Aqua Clear System Carbon InsertsFeb 14, 2012
By Horsedogcat A clean, convenient part of my Aqua Clear 50 system. The net bag allows you to conveniently rinse the carbon between changes.
As advertised!Dec 21, 2011
By Justin Eisinger Great product. Much better price then you would find in most pet shops, and very convenient to have the carbon already bagged and ready to drop in. All you need to do is rinse!

By Matthew Spencer I've been using the Aqua Clear 50 (two of them in fact) for about 10 years. When I bought mine, they were called the Aqua Clear 200. Not sure why they changed the name, but they are still running strong.
Recently, two of my fish decided to spawn. I learned that really messes up an aquarium fast. Needless to say, I had to treat it with Melafix and Clout. The Clout meant I had to pull the carbon packs out of the filters. For about 3 days I ran without the carbon. The tank got just a little hazy. Not bad, but not the crystal clear waters I've been used to.
24 hours after putting the new carbon packs back in, crystal clear again.
Aqua Clear is the only brand I've used. It was highly recommended by the Pet Store when I bought my set up way back when. I didn't realize how good this stuff was until I had to do without it. Looking at some friends' setups, I realize Aqua Clear really is the best.
