I research research research everything I buy. I never make a purchase without making sure it's the best I can get for my money.
In the world of protein skimmers you pay for what you get for the most part. Is this comparable to a $200.00 protein skimmer? No. But any skimmer for a decent size tank under $100.00 and even a little over that, meaning the non-nano skimmers, even the big names in affordable skimmers(sea-clone, etc) are usually riddled with problems. So for me I was willing to spend under $50.00 to give this one a shot. It absolutely can't be any worse than anything you can get for around the $100.00 range from the big name producers. This skimmer is of considerable size and shouldn't have any problem with tanks in the 100g/125g range and maybe even a 180g.
Micro-bubbles should eventually go down as the unit is broken in and doesn't hurt anything, just looks.
To me this is well worth $50.00 shipped to my door. Couldn't be happier. If you have under $200.00 or so to spend on a skimmer, and can't afford a really good high end one, then maybe give this thing a try.

So I bought this well over a year ago. It hasn't given me one problem! Nothing leaks and it collects so much in the top cup. I bought this when I was 18, I'm 20 now. So as you can imagine I'm on a tight college kid budget. I was scared when I bought this thinking it wouldn't work, but it is simple and works great. GET IT!!

I bought this skimmer for my son's tank. I have two tanks myself with expensive skimmers and they both work great. I figured I would save some money and get him one for his tank so I bought this one and figured it was worth a shot. The only thing nice about the unit is the pump. The pump is more like a powerhead and has nice flow. The rest of the product is very thin and cheap. The product I received was broken when unpackaged. It was able to be epoxied back together. Creates alot of micro bubbles but 75 percent of those bubbles end up in the tank instead of the skimmer. The tube that connects the powerhead to the skimmer body had to be cut, about an inch and a half, to make it work. I would not buy another one. I can say this is an example of you get what you pay for.

Ya know... I bought it knowing I spent minimal amount of money. Reading another post on here about the overall quality feel made me interested and figured I might have to massage it to work in my sump. It's all rigged up pretty good now. One thing I did have to do was cut the long section of the u shaped plastic tube for optimal water height as to where my pump was actually submerged (it is a pretty nice pump).
If the skimming function ends up working my overall satisfaction would be 4 as it has reached my "Expectation".

Bad skimmer, GREAT pump..Feb 20, 2012

The only thing that works of this skimmer is the pump. It has good power and produce enough microbubbles, enough to make my own DIY skimmer with a 2.5 liter bottle of .... soda. With this skimmer I could only get water in my aquarium. I think it has a design problem, since the collection cup tube is too thick, and another problem is that I never could get the water mixed with bubbles reached the edge of the cup, which is the point of best performance, as the manual says.
My DIY skimmer runs OK, I give five star to the pump for this product ...
