not so goodJan 04, 2012

i got this for my 4 gallon tank.
some times it seems it gets VERY hot, and if i didnt have a hardy betta my fish would be dead. nevertheless, i've probably taken a few months off of this guy's life with the temp spiking so high. i have it set at 78 and it seems so very hot at times, and other times not warm enough at all.
........ eventually that stopped happening but now i'm shopping for a new one 3 months later because there is condensation inside the heater.
Really great brand, good little heater!Dec 29, 2011
By L. Millis This is my second heater like this-- the first was for a larger tank and I was so happy with it, I bought the smaller model for a second tank we have. I love that the thermastat has numbers on it instead of just "+" and "-" It made initial set up so much quicker and easier on the fish.
But what I'm more impressed with is the Aqueon brand and I will tell you why! I bought a Top Fin 29 gallon tank set up from a pet store in May, and right before Christmas, the light stopped working. It was made by Aqueon and packed with the Top Fin set. New bulbs did not work. It was way past the 90 day store return policy, so, noticing the Aqueon name on the manual for the light, I decided to try to e-mail them and see if they could do anything for me. I got a response the next day, asking if I would still have a receipt and could I send them a copy--
I don't have a scanner, so I took some good-quality photos of the dated receipt, the light's instruction booklet (with model number, etc on the front), and one of the light, too, for good measure, and inserted them in an e-mail reply. I got a response that said, simply "Perfect. Thank you."
I didn't hear anything back for a day or two, so I e-mailed again and asked how I should proceed. I got a reply saying that they would be sending me a replacement and it would go out right after the holidays on the 27th. It arrived the 28th (we are in the same state, I believe)-- and so from the time I first contacted them to receiving a light was one week-- and that included the holiday weekend.
That is phenomenal! Between that good customer service and my happiness with the performance of the heater the last couple months in our larger tank, I will be a dedicated Aqueon customer!

This item works great and the controls are really visible, some heaters no so much. Important to be able to tell if it is on or not. Gets hot fast so make sure if no water in your tank you unplug right away because the brackets are plastic and they melt really fast I found out. Easy to keep clean and easy to use. I have about 10 gallons of water in a 20 gallon tank for turtles

JunkFeb 16, 2011
By Dr. Freeman Used this heater for less than two weeks. It held temperature perfectly. Now for the junk part. Started making a popping sound and when it would pop, bubbles would come out of it. Considering the dangers of mixing water with faulty electrical probucts this heater is going back to Petco today.
