Great value, great strengthJun 09, 2009
By MaggieMayK I have always used 40ft dog tie outs for my 12 year old "Malamutt". She weighs over 70 pounds, and still thinks she's a sled dog! Previously, I had purchased these at local chain pet stores, but lately, I've had trouble finding the right size and strength. After a quick online search, I found The Boss, Prestige 40 ft Large Dog Tie Out. The price was a few dollars less than the stores, and I took advantage of free shipping over $25 by purchasing 2 at once. They normally last me about 4 months - it's been about a month now and it's holding up just fine. The spring attachment is study, and it's easy to attach to her collar. Would definitely purchase again!

45lb dog snapped clasp attached to stakeOct 15, 2009
By P. Murray This is a decent product. But, don't leave your dog outside by himself. My 45lb mix wants to chase the deer and squirrels that roam the neighborhood. He pulled hard enough that the latch (up + down slider part) attached to the stake snapped right off. He took off after the deer with 40' of cable trailing behind him. I found him 2.5 hrs later tangled up behind a neighbor's house. Certainly my bad for leaving him unattended while we ate breakfast just inside from where he was. We got a lot of of it during play time and for use while we were in the yard with him. He quickly got used to how far he could go without the yank. If I get another one it will only be used while he is under supervision. I remain surprised he was able to break that clasp so easily.

Terrific BargainSep 12, 2009
By Donna M. Mortensen The tie out was very light-weight looking with what appeared to be flimsy end pieces. My dog is a 50 lb very muscular athletic 6 foot straight up high jumping dog. It worked great. The lighter weight was still strong enough to keep the dog from pulling free and the ends haven't broken yet - She has been using it for several weeks now and not had one problem. The older tie out was heavier and did not allow the dog to jump without twisting the cable. This one hasn't twisted once and the dog can still chase the squirrels into the trees. I bought several (they still have to be replaced as the weather is so hot it causes them to fade and the ends are showing signs of rust because they are in the grass dew and the rain. But, so cheap not a problem to buy several and replace as needed. I will definitely be buying these again, as needed, and would highly recommend them over any other ones I have used in the past. The dog loves the lighter weight as it gives her more freedom. I love the fact that she can't jump the fence and yet can still play out in the back yard.

Did the job for 2-years...Sep 03, 2011
By skribbles76 Not really sure how long these things are intended to last, but I was able to get 2-years out of it. I kept it outside all year long in all types of weather (rain, snow, etc...) For whatever reason the plastic casing around the wire roping had little notches missing in certain areas and over time the exposed wire roping rusted and eventually my 28-lb dog was able to break free from the tie out. Luckly, she did not get too far and was unharmed. Please be careful and watch for these areas in the tie out as it gets older.

beware the plastic coatingMar 07, 2011
By MC This dog tie works well with one problem. When the cord gets tangled on itself, the plastic covering tends to come apart leaving sharp edges. If you can prevent any knots from being created, then this would be a nice product.
