Our old one was, I think, coded for smaller dogs and it had worked for... Maybe three years? It was beginning to fray pretty heavily though so we wanted to replace it before the dogs decided to give it a real workout (an unexpected squirrel and they'd've done for it).
This one is a bit thicker and a bit shorter. I'm not thrilled about the shorter part but it's probably six inches shorter so it's long enough to give the dogs plenty of space to play and run. Because it's thicker, it doesn't tangle as easily which is a huge plus. I can't figure out how on earth these dogs get tangled in the way they do, but I think they spend hours thinking about it and planning it so it'll be especially hard to get them loose. Since I've gotten this lead, they haven't been able to get themselves tangled quite so tightly. They can wrap it around a tree, sure, but no more of the over/under/behind heat-pump/deck/old stump/garden hose.
We put two small-ish dogs on the same lead. One is about 35 pounds and the other is about 65. This is plenty strong enough for them, I think.
Oh, and the clips are freakin' great!!! They're large enough and smooth enough to manipulate easily - even when the thing's been freezing solid on the deck all night - the clips slide open really easily and smoothly.

Would not recommend this item for dogs under a 100lbs. It's been used for 3 weeks and beginning to show signs that the plastic coating is cracked.

This was more then I expected... I have large bloodhound that pulls a lot and this cable is thick and heavy duty! If you have big dogs this is a great cable!

This is a great tie out for dogs . The only thing is I wish they had them in 40ft length .The only one I could find was 30ft. And that wasn't quite long enough. But it's sturdy and does the trick . I use it for a dog that weighs about 65lbs. But he is a strong dog and pulls a lot, so this works for him .

I use this tie out for my very strong Tree Walker Hound. It is great, not only because it is strong, but it doesn't tangle as easily as some of the lighter cable tie outs. The only issue I had with this item was one of the clips stopped working properly. But I was able to fix it.
