Our cats' food and water are in my work room at home and I've had a blue plastic Drinkwell roaring along in there for years (it has certainly served us well as one of our cats will only drink running water). I was so tired of cleaning the Drinkwell with all it's nooks and crannies so this one looked pretty good when I ran across it. It is really lovely, very, simple and elegant and is so, so quiet. It's like having a little zen fountain and the water stays very cool. Be warned, it is half again larger than a Drinkwell and a little heavy when full so it's difficult to carry to a sink to be emptied or cleaned without spilling a lot of water. We solved this by taking a big bowl (or you could take a small bucket) to the fountain, we pour out the water right there, then everything else is easy. This is a wonderful fountain both functionally and aesthetically. I guess most importantly, I left both fountains running next to each other for the first week, by the end of the week the new one was the cats' fountain of choice.
One year later: I still LOVE this fountain. Aside from the cats loving it too, our "running water" cat will sit in front of it for minutes at at a time staring at the flowing water...then he has a drink. I mention this to point out that the fountain has entertainment value for some cats as well...

Great product. It is dishwasher safe, as I have ran it through a couple of times now. The fountain can run for about 4 days before you actually need to add water.

I've tried many fountains and like this one the best- mostly because it is MUCH easier to clean than any other, it's quiet, holds a good amount of water (I have 3 kitties) and looks great.

I've used the plastic drinking fountains before. With the hard water in my area they got severe hardwater stains and were a pain to fill. We have 3 cats and 1 dog and even the biggest fountains required filling the tank more than once a day.
This fountain was the perfect solution, has lasted us well over a year without any problems
PROS:
- Ceramic surface makes cleaning easy, no hard water buildup etc
- So easy to fill - don't try to carry it from the sink, just fill a pitcher of water to fill it or top it up. When its running low, you just pour water in, MUCH easier than removing a reserve tank, filling, recapping, and resetting like with the other fountains
- Quiet, long lasting motor
CONS:
- Sometimes hair or debris can clog the filter on the motor and get noisy... this is usually easy to fix but can be annoying
- After a year the rubber parts and plastic case for the motor were starting to deteriorate. However, I contacted Hammacher Schlemmer to ask how to buy new rubber parts and they sent me all new plastic parts at no charge, including a new motor! GREAT customer service!
I couldn't be happier with this product and can't recommend it highly enough! (I've had it over a year and no cracks have developed in the ceramic. I do not put it in the dishwasher even though its dishwasher safe but maybe thats why others have cracked?)

At first the 3 cats were concerned and attracted to the sound of water bubbling softly from this beautiful, high quality fountain. Then they crept closer and got a taste from the irresistable little waterfall. The kitties rate it FIVE STARS for its clean lines, hygenic design, and dishwasher safeness. I removed the 3 little rubber feet from the bottom of the water slide because they seem to harbor bacteria making the water basin feel slimy and it works quietly without them.
