5excellent productMar 10, 2011

I use this aquarium chiller for my 17gal reservoir for hydroponic orchids. the temperature under the LEDs/CFLs/ and HPS light is almost 75 degrees even with a 300CFM fan in a 2x4x6 space. This little gadget lowers my reservoir temperature to around 69-70 degrees. I love this little handy cooler, great for the money.

5Pleasantly surprised!Jan 22, 2010

I bought this product with low expectations, which may be partly why I'm giving it 5 stars. I have a 24 gallon aquapod that has 150watt metal halide with room temperatures reaching as much as 80 degrees. I've had no problem using a powerful fan blowing over the surface of the water and connected to a controller to keep the water temperature at 78.0 degrees.

I bought this chiller because I wanted to have more cooling power for the summer, but didn't want to buy or install an expensive chiller. I have it set so that if the water temperature reaches 78.5 it turns on, then if the temperature reaches 78.9 the fan turns on too. Since I've had it, the fan has only turned on once for a few minutes. At that time the room temperature had reached 80 degrees. I don't think you can rely on this chiller by itself in hot weather, but if you have this chiller and a fan on a 25 gallon tank or less, I'm sure you could maintain the water temperature at 78 degrees even if the room temperature got to 85 degrees.

While this chiller might not be able to power down the temperature the way an inline chiller would, I feel that it exactly offsets the heat from the metal halide. I give it 5 stars based on price, easy install, and because it makes no noise.

5It works!Sep 05, 2010

I bought this for my 24 gallon tank which is overheating because of the extra lighting and poor ventilation of the surface of the water. I cut a hole out of a lock'nLock container, installed this probe in thru this hole in the lid, and I have water flowing thru the container from the canister hose. (this is basically cooling the water before it re-enters the tank). Works awesome. All I needed was 1-3 degree cooling and that's what it does.

5cools waterJul 21, 2011

It says 10 gal can get 6-8 degree cooling. I am using it in a 5 gal that is only about 3/4 full and non insulated with a high intensity light. The normal temp of the tank is a blazing 90F. With the cooler it gets to 77F and at night with the light off it gets to 72F. I was hoping for more cooling power but at least the fish isn't cooking.

I wish that installation was easier cause most canister filters are not squared. Hang on filters are not good for keeping co2 in the water or good for a tank thats not full to the top as alot of splashing occurs.

1Doesn't do anythingJun 18, 2011

I put 2 of these on the sump of my 20 gallon tank that has roughly 4 gallons in it. The tank stayed at room temp just like it always does. I put extra ventilation on the units which didn't make any difference. It's disapointing because they are quiet and compact, oh well i'll sell these and get a real chiller.
