Because Dog Gone Smart Crate Pads/Mats stay clean longer you don't have to wash them as often as similar products on the market. When you do wash them they come out looking brand new - just follow these simple instructions:

 Simple, elegant, reversible crate pad -- Good qualityJul 25, 2010

This little crate pad is really great. I bought it because I was looking for a pad to fit into my Cozy Time pet carriers Cozy Time Pet Home but couldn't find one that fit exactly. The extra-small size (15" x 20") is nearly a perfect fit, and proved itself a winner on a long-distance car trip with our two cats.
The crate pad is reversible, with cotton on one side for keeping cool in summer and a sherpa side for cooler temperatures. We used both sides since we started out in the heat (115 degrees outside) and ended up in the mountains -- then two weeks later did the reverse. It did not smell bad after these two weeks, which surprised me. It's washable and very easy to care for, but DO NOT use fabric softener because the fabric has been treated somehow. The thickness was about right -- not too thick that it left no head room in the carrier for the pets, and not thin either.
We left the pads out while on our trip, and the cats used them as beds as well. They held up well -- even with one cat which wanted to get out of the cage and pawed at the pad off and on for 11 hours. So far I'm pleased with this pad.
Side note: The Dog Gone Smart crate pads come in many other sizes, so companies that sell it here would probably do well to offer it in various sizes/colors on the sales page rather than each size and each color on a separate page. I did a search for this page on another review in order to link to it and was offered about 6 blind choices and had to guess which one it was.

Our dog loves this bed as much as we do! She loves sleeping on the fleece side and even goes in her cage on her own since we got this particular crate pad! It is also odor-free! It keeps our dog and our house smelling less like dog. :-) I highly recommend this product. We like it so much that we have also ordered the doughnut-shape beds for the living room!

It seemed like a nice bed at first, but it was only 2 days until my mini shnauzer had it ripped to shreds.

My dog would get very stressed out while in her crate. Since we have gotten this, she has calmed down a lot. Just recently she started going in the crate on her own and laying down on it. It is water proof on the colored side.
