The Best Waterer I've Ever Owned!Apr 10, 2008
By R. Phillips
"Rusty"
We have 3 labs and have tried just about every waterer on the market. I hated every one of them until we found the Dogit! With this design, instead of the big drinking area that the water pours into there is a very small drinking area which means that you don't have dirt and hair falling into the bowl like you do with most others. Not only that, but where the dog drinks from is raised, which helps with dogs who tend to drink too fast and then yack up the water minutes later. The other units would have to be filled almost daily. This baby holds a lot of water. The one person said the inside of the bowl gets dirty, but with three labs that love the mud as much as ours do I can say that we've never had any problem with the bowl getting dirty. Seriously, I cannot say enough good things about this unit. Everyone that has seen it has loved it. It's quiet compared to others, it's sooooo much cleaner, and it holds more than most others. If your dogs have a drinking problem like ours do or you are just tired of waterers that are dirty and nasty looking after 1 day... do yourself a HUGE favor and buy this fountain!

Loves It!Feb 04, 2009
By Mrs Mad Maddy I love this so much. We have a Newfoundland and a Great Pyrenees, big slobber mouths! I used to have to clean their water bowls every two hours, now I just have to worry about the outside water bowl. I do clean this out every three days but still it is much easier. For everyone that is having trouble cleaning out the blue bubble:
Flip it over, turn the round dial counter clock wise until the blue bubble separates from the unit. You can then get your hands in there and really clean it good.
I just love this and the boys do too, my Newfie just lays his cheeks on the side and lets the water run down his face. My Great Pyr is a delicate drinker and it also suits him as the water flow isn't too fast.

Great Waterer!Dec 08, 2007
By E. Dove This dog waterer is fantastic. We started using a fish tank pump to circulate water in a small bucket for our cats years ago. When we added a dog, we started having to refill that bucket quite often. A lot of other fountains splash, even with just cats, and most splash with a messy dog. Ours is on a hardwood floor in our dining room so couldn't have water flying around. We put it on the mat, purchased separately, and it works great. The cats drink from the sides, the dog from the top, and the large water capacity means I only fill it once a week. It's also quiet. Worth every penny!

Massive fountain, but not all it seems.Sep 17, 2010
By Master_P I've owned this for about a week, and am seeing the pros and cons of this design. I have one cat that's trapped in a golden retriever's body (ha ha!) who is a really sloppy drinker. When he, "drinks", stuff goes out of his mouth into the bowl, and what goes from the bowl into his mouth eventually lands all over the floor near the fountain.... I say this so you know who the test subject is! :)
Pros: -It holds a TON of water. This has one main advantage, and that is less maintenance time. I haven't had to remove it to fill it up yet, and as I said, I've had it for almost a week. My previous water bowl was the Petmate Deluxe 108 oz. I had to fill that every couple of days and it was a hassle taking it apart, filling it up, carrying it back, etc.. By the way, when you fill it up, this sucker is heavy!
-The filtering mechanism is BEFORE the pump, not after!!! If you are shopping for a water fountain, I cannot emphasize how important this is!!! On this fountain, the water pours down the side, then goes through the filter, then to the pump, and then up a tube and out down the side. With many fountain designs on the market, the pump pushes water up a tube and THEN it goes through the filter, and then down into the main bowl. The pump just sits somewhere at the bottom near the bowl, and the filter is above it. This is a problem if your pet gets hair, food, and dirt in the water bowl because all that stuff goes straight to the water pump before the filter can clean it. This can cause the pump to clog, so when you take it apart for cleaning, you have to clean the pump or else it can burn out. That is less likely to happen with this design.
-The sides are high off the ground. This prevents floor dirt from getting in the water. Additionally, if your pet tends to stomp in water bowls, that is much harder to do with this design.
-It's quiet. At times, the Petmate fountain would be much louder.
Cons: -There's no on/off switch! The only way to turn it off is unplugging it from the wall.
-You must take the reservoir out to refill. I know this is common on a lot of fountains, but I still don't like it. With the Petmate, whenever it was running low and I didn't have time to take it apart to refill it, I could quickly fill up a pitcher of water and dump it in the main bowl. That would allow me at least a day to set aside time to refill it properly. This fountain doesn't let you do that. When it's empty, you have to take it out to refill it. It would be wonderful if you could carry a full pitcher to the fountain, open a lid, and pour in more water to fill it up.
-Expensive filters. You can get a pack of three Petmate filters for less than five bucks online - and those last 3 months each! These cost nearly twice as much and only last 3 weeks. So for a 12 week (or three month) period, the Petmate's total supply cost is $1.30. This fountain is closer to $35. That's a huge difference. So if you decide to buy this, I recommend shopping around for deals on replacement filters or buying in bulk.
-The advertised image is slightly misleading. When water pours out from the top, it does not flow evenly over all the sides in a nice, perfect smooth flow. Your floor will not be 100% level, so there will be more water coming down on some sides than others. You might have to fiddle with it so the water is pouring from a place where your pet can drink from the sides.
All in all, I give this fountain an average rating, but I'm also a pretty tough critic. I have not had to clean this fountain yet, so I can't comment on any unique challenges... however I can say that I'm suspecting some things will be annoying. Since my dogs' drool will get in the water, I foresee a few small parts will require disassembly for cleaning. Examples include the spring and plunger at the bottom of the reservoir, and crevices around the water pump.

Worth the money!Jan 09, 2008
By Minnesota Mom I love this waterer! Our St. Bernard was so picky with his water. If it had any hair or a bit of food in it, he just wouldn't drink. I did some research and I liked the fact that this waterer is elevated. It's great if you have a big dog. He drinks lots of water now and I like knowing he's well-hydrated. Our cat has started using it too! This waterer takes a little maintenance; I rinse the base out every time I fill it (about every 4-5 days) and I change the filter approximately every month. Not bad--love it!!!
