This is a great leash.Jun 18, 2011
By Tommy I have a fifty pound husky. I take her rollerblading. She tends to go through retracting leashes frequently. In the past, I have found Flexi to be a good company that typically stands behind it's products. For instance, if the leash breaks the company will replace it within reason (if your dog chewed it up, you are out of luck). The company has replaced two of mine. My last leash was in bad shape from me dropping it a lot and the dog abusing it so the company likely wasn't going to replace that one. I didn't think it was fair for me to ask.
As a replacement, I decided to go all out for the biggest and strongest one Flexi offered. I figured if it was meant to hold dogs like Great Danes it would be OK holding my dog who is quite a bit smaller then a Great Dane but nonetheless still thinks I am a sleigh. I was right. This leash has hand made in Germany and lives up to Germany's reputation of building great products. The leash is very well designed. It is very solid, has a wider belt then the other models, extends to 26' as opposed to the otherwise common 16', and the grip is very comfortable (it is rubberized).
Unlike the other Flexi models, this particular leash is interesting because the pulley that the belt retracts on to is exposed (so people can see it) as opposed to it being hidden in the leash's casing. I have been to the dog park a few times with it, and people ask were I purchased it at.
I can think of two things some might view as negatives. First, I considered only giving the product four stars because it is expensive. It costs almost twice as much as the next smallest size. Then I reflected that this really works well and is about twice as big as the next smallest model. It also is built in Germany where workers are actually treated as people. So, I went with the five stars. Second, some might find the leash to be heavy. My girlfriend weighs less then a hundred pounds wet. She doesn't mind the added weight of the leash and finds it more comfortable to hold then the last leash and is easier to control the dog. For someone else, maybe that is an issue.
I use this leash in combination with a Wacky Walker leash that both extends the range of this leash and also eliminates some jerkiness of traditional leashes. The combination is extremely nice.
