2If you wear a hat, there is a far better alternativeOct 17, 2009
By Amber D. Evans "Full-time student; occassional triathlete"
I bought one of these Flexi lights from PetSmart and it exhibits all the same problematic issues that everyone else has mentioned. In all, it's not worth the money. What works is this: grab an old hat with a brim and pick up one of those "Hat Brim Head Light" for the same money; you'll not only have a hands-free and very useful light, but it's ALWAYS pointing exactly where you are looking. Since I lost the Velcro-attached Flexi light only about 2 weeks after I bought it (because my dog wrapped around me and the leash and tore it off in the dark), I've really started using the hat brim one instead. Truthfully, I find that the brim light is not only more convenient, but it's also safer because cars and others can see me as I approach them.

1Where there's no competition, junk can get five stars...Sep 25, 2009
By Maggie Smith
I really wanted this product to work, and am surprised no one else has offered anything like it.

I just bought my third one, and will have to return it because after a week it stopped working. This light, even when it works, has problems in any case:

1) the on-off switch is not only a pain, but someone with, say, arthritis, cannot operate it all. And one would think that there is such a big market of elderly people walking their dog--and who would need extra light more? Yet, this has been designed in a way that unless you press a specific way, you just have to keep on trying. And if you don't have hard nails, it's even harder with just finger pressure. The last thing you want is your dog pulling and you are still trying to get it to work.

2) as someone else noted, the battery cover is a pain as well. First, it comes off very easily: you brush against something, the cover falls off, and then the worse follows: you have to be looking around to find not only the cover, but the two batteries AND the small rubber band that is supposed to seal it. And then you spend ages trying to fit the cover back on again in a way that will stay. This was the undoing of my last one.

3) the velcro attachment to the flexilead is a great idea, but, again, if your dog pulls and you brush against something, it easily falls off and you're looking everywhere for it. In fact, that's how I lost my first one.

And I just have a westie, plus I'm generally quite handy with things--but this has just exasperated me.

Finally, in the last version I got, they had the good idea of putting a ring to it, so that you can attach it to other things as well, not just a flexilead. But this seems to have undermined the quality of the product itself: obviously a ring just increased the cost too much...Of course, mine could be just one lemon, but knowing the product for about 2 years now, I think not.

In short, they could not have designed it worse if they had tried. Pity, because I cannot think of any owner who takes their dog out in the dark who does not need it--except the ones who don't pick up, of course, or those whose dog poo is, well, the size of my dog.

2Better than nothing...Oct 12, 2009
By Shih Tzu Pal
Pros: Easy to spotlight poop to pick up in the dark. Cars might see my dog & me with a light. Hands free light.
Cons: Original batteries died in less than a week. VERY difficult to press on/off - have to press so hard that I must apply counter-force with my other hand on the bottom of the light so that I don't push the light completely off the leash . Battery cover not user friendly.

2Works great unless you have 2 dogs with 2 leashesSep 20, 2009
By W. Rigg "Double Doodle"
Trying to handle 2 dogs with these lights attached to their retractable leash, the lights have a tendency to fall off when the leash from 1 dog wraps around the light and pulls it off or handling 2 leashes after the walk, these protruding lights rub against each other cause them to come off. I wished I had bought lights that are built into the leash or built into a harness that is then snapped onto the leash. I now do not even use the light on the leash; just carry it in my pocket and use it when necessary. It does have enough light to handle the job of cleaning up after my dogs.

5flexi led leash lightSep 11, 2009
By Elias E. Faraci "little ace"
love it . its small , throws off enough light to see what my dog has done and to clean up after him . there is no need to carry a flashlight which is a bonus .
