Could have been 5 starsMar 02, 2011
By M. McGrath Bought the heater for my biocube 14, and wanted to install it into the back chambers to hide it. I thought it would be perfect as it is submersible and compact, but the manufacturer recommends that you operate the heater horizontally. I would have to install it vertically to work, the way I want. Although it is a great heater, and it is keeping the temp in my tank perfectly. I may install it vertically and see what happens.

Fills the billJan 06, 2012
By c'est ma It's often hard to find decent equipment for the nano/pico tank, and when my previous Finnex heater with an external controller bit the dust (after years of service), I was glad to find this 50 Watt model available. It has been working perfectly for a nearly a month, now, so I expect to get several years of service out of it. Once you've had a heater with an external controller, why would you ever get one without it? They are just SO much more convenient to use.
My only complaint about this model would be the very short cord (approx. 6") between the controller and the plug that goes into your electrical outlet. This definitely compromises the places you can put the controller within easy access, depending on the location of your tank and your outlets.
Otherwise, a fine, much appreciated product!

Can't ask for much more. Plug it in according to the directions and walk away. When external temperatures fluctuate it's important to have a heater that is accurate. Fishes are very happy!!

So far, so greatApr 16, 2011

I have went through the mess of choosing new heaters and most really are not very good. This one is very good. It is simple, it takes up small space, and temperature has worked spot-on for the first couple of months. It lays sideways, so you can put it low in the back of aquarium and not see it if you want. It has a nice temperature gage and different lights come on when it is in session. It is not digital, but really who cares? You should always have another thermometer in there to check. Have the one on your heater, and then one of the $1.50 ones you can get at any petshop. Who says your fancy digital one is correct you scummy digital heater buyers!

Gets it DoneMar 14, 2011
By A Truck Driver This heater will do the job if you have a 10 gal unit. Looks smaller than pictured, but heats very well. My house gets 67 at night an 75 during the day and water stays 78.All I could ask.
