Very pleasedSep 06, 2007
By ShawnTheMom My husband and children suprised me with baby mice for my birthday. I chose the Habitrail Ovo cage for them and I've had it now for several days. I've been very happy with it. I've always been a fan of the habitrail brand and this is no exception.
The water bottle that comes with the pad is quite large, and the ovo tube connectors are wonderful. They have a rubber grip that you twist to tighten or loosen. The connection they make for the add on tubes is very secure but also easily taken apart for cleaning. Unlike other brands and some older model habitrails. In the past I've had trouble disconnecting the toubing on the habitrails, but when I've used other brands of cages I felt that the toubing came loose to easily. Habitrail has finally solved that problem with the new connectors. Another feature I like about this cage is the easy access. Instead of just a little door you put your hand through, the entire roof folds back, making it much easier for me to reach what I want to reach. As far as space, the ovo pad is plenty big enough for young pets as a starter cage, but as they grow you will need to expand on it. (part of the beauty of buying a habitrail is being able to do that) The wheel that comes with the ovo would work wonderfully for a Syrian hamster (I have a similar one for my hamster) but if you plan on using your ovo for mice like I do, the wheel will need to be replaced with a more mouse friendly solid surface wheel. (you can use most of the wheels that are meant to attach to the side of a wire cage, because the wheel that comes with the ovo uses the same type of connection.)
I've found the ovo to be extremely easy to clean compared to other cages. Every thing disassembles easily. I've found there is no need to manhandle or force anything together or apart like I have to do with my hamsters older model cage.
My mice and I are very pleased with the Ovo. ;-)

Great ProductAug 27, 2008
By S. O. Newmiller I have a young black banded syrian hamster, and he loves his OVO Pad. Not only does it look great, but it also functions well. He loves the den, and the elevated food keeps waste and litter out. Plus it being virtually enclosed, except for plenty ventilation holes, keeps litter in and drafts out. The large silent wheel is also a great plus. The option of expansion is also handy (My roommate and I travel a lot across Michigan and have the Transport Module connected as an extra room, and detach that for him to travel in and also to stay in if we're cleaning the pad)
In an earlier review, there is some concern about the water bottle leaking. If your Habitrail OVO comes with a product manual for the entire OVO line (like mine did) I recommend reading it thoroughly. Since the water bottle does not have a ball, it relies on a vacuum seal. You need to hold the bottle upside down over the sink for several seconds after filling so the seal can be created and the dripping stop, which completely eliminates the water getting into the home.
I would recommend the Habitrail line to anyone with a small rodent. I hope your hamster loves it as much as my hamster, Thor, does!

Close to perfect...Jan 06, 2008
By E. Gollihar We got this tonight as a replacement for a disgusting "Critter Trail" cage that allowed my son's two mini hamsters to fling their poo and bedding all over our living room (the wheel is on top of the cage--a good idea--and full of holes along the edge--not a good idea).
So far, so good. We also picked up the "Tower" attachment, which includes a "Den" and some tubing. I'm certain we'll be adding to that over time.
The good: It's relatively simple to put together, and looks as though it will be easy to clean. It's designed well and the hamsters love the little hideaway under the food dish.
The not-so-good: Why is the food dish at the top of "stairs?" Why is the wheel so huge and smack-dab in the middle of the thing? The "locking" rings to hold the tubes together generally seem well-made, but a few of them don't actually lock, so I'm a bit nervous about whether they might come apart in the future. Finally, our base seems slightly warped, so that to get the front to close fully, we have to push one end in. No biggy, unless a kid or grandma forget to do this one time and the cage doesn't completely latch.
We pulled the wheel out and put in a smaller one from our old metal cage (that they figured out how to escape from), and both the hamsters and my son seem happy. The only other issue is that this set is definitely designed for larger hamsters and mice. When we built the tower above the main cage (as pictured), the hamsters were too small to get up the tubing to it, and gave up trying. Since we lowered it so they're going through a tunnel instead of climbing, they've run back and forth to the Den about 100 times.

Best Cage EverOct 26, 2007
By RasStarMan Where do I begin with this product. It is probably the best hamster enclosure on the market. Hagen has done well with this line with its modern feel, subtle colors and uber-connectivity. I got this cage for my Dwarf Robo hamsters. The only qualms I had with the product was that it is a bit too big scale wise for dwarfs, but that is not a fault of the product. The stairs to the food bowl were a bit too smooth for the little guys and the space in the wheel is a mild hindrance for their tiny legs but a little tape and it was perfect. Short of those minor things I think it is a definite must buy. I highly recommend the additions especially the den and the carrying unit. I have been able to construct a very unique cage experience to keep my hamsters busy and intrigued.

Best cage ever boughtOct 23, 2007

This has to be the best cage that I have ever bought. For my hamster my old cage was small and only had 1 tube and that was short and you couldnt add any extra parts but with Habitrail Ovo it is amazing. The cage is verry big and with the folding roof disign its verry easy to clean. If you get the pad you might want to buy some extra peices to go with it because you only get the standard things but if you get the suite you are all set. There are no bars for your hamster to chew on or kick bedding out of. All the peices fit with each other so you dont need to make your cage look like the modle you can make it look how ever you want. It has a verry modern disign and a refeshed look. The tubes are colored but not too much so you can still see clearly instde. There is endless posibilites for what you can make your cage look like. If you are buying a new cage or looking for a cage for your first hamster get this one it has to be the best.
