Good affordable collarMay 20, 2005
By Kurt Westenbarger Bought this collar 2.5 years ago for an 8 month old large dog (grew to be 97 pounds). It has worked great and held up until now despite heavy use, repeated swims, mud and snow. Collar unit is rechargable and holds it for up to three days if not activated much. Hand held unit uses two 28A batteries that lasted a long time when the unit was new. They didn't last as long as the unit aged but we beat the hell out of it. The hand held finally gave it up today and I'm buying a second one. My dog has very thick neck fur so I had to install the longer electrodes on the collar and put in on tight to make connection with skin. I didn't have to resort to shaving his neck as you do with some furry breeds. Tip: we always hit the tone button (collar makes a little sound) before a corrective zap. Now he responds to the tone and we don't have to shock him much anymore. But use all shock collars wisely.
The above was written in 2005. The second collar I purchased at that time has held up as well or better than the first. It's now almost three years old (writing this in 2009) and my opinion has not changed.
Update: January 13, 2010. The second collar I purchased in 2005 gave up the ghost this weekend. I'm now purchasing my third. I'm very happy with this collar's performance and durability. My dog runs to get it around his neck because he knows we're going somewhere fun when he has it on. A good sign I've not overused the shocking feature. He responds to the tone immediately and maybe gets a mild shock once every month as a reminder. This last collar had been swimming numerous times and even worked in the snow at -30 degrees F as long as I kept the controller warm in my pocket. I still give it four stars. (to get five stars it would have to pick up the dog's deposits in my yard. Alas I haven't found that feature yet ;-)

Bad warranty policyDec 05, 2005
By Lani Hardage-Vergeer My collar stopped working after 3 months. Innotek doesn't honor their warranty unless you buy from an authorized dealer (which doesn't include Amazon).

Beware InnotekDec 05, 2005
By Lani Hardage-Vergeer Innotek tells me that Amazon is not one of their authorized dealers, so they will not honor any warranty. I bought one of their collars and it stopped working after two months. No warranty service if you don't buy from one of their authorized dealers.

No Problems HereMay 21, 2008

"Jus' the Facts"
I read the reviews about these collars. I know there was a few people complaining that the battery life is poor. Honestly, I bought this thing like 2 months ago and haven't charged it once. Granted, I am a casual user. I really don't use it for my dog unless we go out, or are in and out alot during the day.
Just make sure you aren't buying for the wrong reasons. This is a supplement to your current training regimen. This collar still requires training to be used properly. There's a dvd included and I would suggest looking at it because even though i'm an experienced dog handler, I still learned a couple of good ideas!
As far as range and quality of the product, I have no issues whatsoever. They suggest you trim the area around the probes too. Do that, or manually move the hair away from the probes after your dog has shaken around a bit. I have a husky with a thick neck and I use level 4/7.
Good luck!

great quality, Tons of featuresFeb 09, 2008
By Reef bug This is the third e-collar I have bought for our doberman, and the one we will keep. I tried the innotek ultra smart, the petsafe deluxe for big dogs and now the advanced 300.
The ultra smart collar was feature rich and of good quality, but I had problems with the thick plastic collar being difficult to put on. It also had poor fit I think due to its inflexibility. I didnt give this collar a chance, maybe with a little more fiddling it might of worked.
The petsafe deluxe was just a piece of junk. The collar had a snap buckle which was nice but it was super cheaply made and had a wire integrated into the collar strap. Also the remote had buttons that would OCASIONALY STICK DOWN! We zapped our dog twice like this!
The digital 300 is everything a good collar should be: small remote, simple sturdy construction. Good range. Originally when shopping for collars we were looking for a collar that was as small as possible. Now I realize that the dog doesn't care and a heavier collar actually has better contact to his neck, so it is more reliable. Just make sure it is fairly tight to prevent it from loosing contact when he puts his head down. I have also read that a loose collar can pull hair and cause sores from constantly slipping around. For this reason I take it off when in the house unless he is particularly wild.
