3New design is very, VERY poor qualityJan 30, 2010
By Dr. B
When I purchased the original version of the Innotek Ultrasmart contain and train system, it was great. MY dog learned quick and he stays within boundaries even without collar on all the time. When I got a second dog, I ordered a second collar for ~$100. Within 2 months, I had to replace it since the glue holding on front cover did not hold and the front cover fell off, disconnecting the two small wires that control the sound. I called Innotek and got a free replacement collar. At the same time, I replaced the other ~2 year old collar since it stopped responding to the remove. This was done for $40 under limited lifetime warranty. Unfortunately, the collars have been redesigned and made with much cheaper quality materials. The collar straps are made of flimpsy rubber material. They tried to introduce a clip collar along with the buckle, but even with the clip part of the collar the buckle part is holding the clip part on. The buckle is very loose an deasily slides back and forth and with the thin, flimpsy straps, the plastic loops that are supposed to secure the length of strap easily pop off. Mine did just that so the collar came off one of my two dogs and the colar became a chew toy. Fortunately, my dog did not choke but the receiver is destroyed so my free collar replacement is goign to probably cost me another $100 to replace. I am now digging out the straps from the original receiver to put on the one remaining collar. If you are purchasing the collar to replace an old one, save the straps of the old one and use those. If you are purchasing the system for the first time, I would ask what the straps on the collars are (durable rubber or flimpsy rubber with the clip and buckle). IF it is the latter, I would request whether they have the old replacement straps or consider another system. Otherwise, there is a risk that your dog will lose the collar or choke on the parts after losing the collar.

4Awesome training tool - questionable battery longevityJan 26, 2009
By Adrian Cote
The collar and remote are just an awesome training tool. We have been using it for 6 months or so on our American Staffordshire Terrier and his off-leash responsiveness now is excellent.

It is a SERIOUS training tool though meaning that it would be very easy to traumatize your dog if you are the least bit inconsistent or overuse it. Self control for the user is mandatory! Not recommended for everyone but a great tool if used properly.

We set up the fence but rarely use it now as it was just a precaution for his digging.

My problem is the battery. We have been using the collar every day and therefore have been charging it often, sometimes every night if used alot that day. About 3 months into using the collar the battery just stopped holding a charge. We contacted the company (who were easy to work with by the way) and they sent us another collar. Now THAT collar isn't holding a charge, again after 2-3 months! We haven't contacted the company yet but we are going to this week.

This is the second collar unit we have gone through in a 6 month time frame which doesn't bode well for the long-term usability of this product.

We have another collar unit that we haven't had any problems with but it hasn't been used much since we bought it for use on our Rottweiler but he's just 4 months old now and it isn't recommended before 6 months.

4It tames my crazy labs!!Dec 12, 2007
By MarathonShopper
I have two labs and they loved to roam to roam the neighborhood before we got the fence system. I love it - the neighbors think the dogs are well-behaved when it is really the fence system. The "train" portion of the product isn't very easy to use (it drains the battery daily and you have to take the collar off the dog to turn the trainer on and off). But for containment in the yard - it is awesome!!! Very rarely do the dogs get the shock of correction, normally the warning tone is all they need to remind them of their boundaries.

4Great product but replacement collar has cheap buckle.Jun 09, 2010
By M. Leahy "Mary"
I have the original Innotek Contain & Train system at both of my homes for our dog. With the addition of another dog, I purchased this replacement collar. Unlike other reviews, I've never had a problem with the collars holding their charge. Having used a different fencing system in the past, it is so nice to have a rechargeable battery on the collars.

Anyway, the new collar contains a quick clip system, which I really like, but the straps are much thinner and the buckle very cheap & flimsy. My two dogs play a lot & the buckle releases itself from the collar very easily. I have had to search for the collar many times in my two yards, luckily finding it before the dogs chewed it up or it got run over by our mower.

I wish they had somehow kept the strength & durability of the original collar and buckle but just added the release clip. Just holding the new collar the buckle rattles loosely & sounds like something made cheaply.

Otherwise, the contain & train system is amazing! One home is on a corner lot in a small community with many people walking by with their dogs, cats running loose, and cars going by. It's great to see the dogs staying within their boundaries! I recommend this system to everybody.

4The CollarMar 21, 2011
By Jayme
I like the fencing system, but the collars need some work. The collar is very flimsy and will not stay on the notch it is set on. We have had to use duct tape to secure the collar so we could use the clasp. It is a design flaw.
