I bought this chiller three and a half month ago. It did not work but I was told I could not return it because it needed a repair. I would have to get the warrenty repair done first. I called JBJ customer support. They asked me to do several things to fix it myself. I did what they said but it did not fix it. Then, they mailed me a part to install, at my expense, and that didn't fix it either. Then I had to send them the chiller to be repaired, again at my expense both ways. At this point, I have paid about $100 for shipping in addition to the original purchase price.
They are slow to respond on their end so each email response back and forth takes 3-5 business days. They had the chiller for over a month to do the repair. When it came back, the controller works but now the compressor is broken. At this point, I don't know whether to take it somewhere local to get it fixed or just to take the $500 loss and throw it away. I will at least get an estimate but the bottom line is don't expect to use the warranty if it breaks. I am extremely dissatisfied. This has very nearly made me decide to avoid online purchases whenever possible.

I bought this unit used, (only 6 months old) and I am loving it! It is only audible when it first starts (barely) and then it is completely silent. I have it next to the couch and you have to put your hand in front of the unit to even tell that air is moving. Very nice!
It keeps my 90gal right on temperature with 2x175Watt Metal Halide Bulbs and 50Watts of T5.
It has a 1deg F on off cycle and is spot on with calibration.
Front display has temperature and a light to tell you if it is running (because you can't hear it).
I couldn't ask for anything more from this unit but for it to last...
100% happy so far!

We have had this chiller on our 46G salt water tank for about five years now and it has been a work horse. We live in the Phoenix, AZ area and the house is frequently hovering near 85-90F during the day and this chiller has put up with that for five summers. Tons of other components in our system have failed over time but not this. Sounds like some of the other reviewers have had bad luck (or something). I wanted people to know I've had one for forever and it's still going strong. We are moving it to our new 185G tank soon.

I purchased this chiller in 07/2010. It failed during the 4th week of ownership. I had to go to JBJ (the manufacturer) for warranty repairs. They forced me to attempt several remedies myself to determine what the likely problem was. I told them from the beginning the compressor wasn't running but everything else was. After a week I was finally authorized an RMA, to which I had to pay THEM shipping both ways. I was not allowed to use my discount and ship it myself.
Anyway, I received the repaired chiller 3 weeks later (which my tank wasn't happy about). It didn't work out of the box. After another RMA I received a working unit. They told me it was a bad computer controller. That one worked fine for 8 months.
It is now 6/2011 and it has failed again. Same problem as before, the compressor isn't coming on. Now, do I spend another $90 shipping for warranty repair or get a better brand?
Whatever I finally decide about mine, I have decided that I would not recommend this brand of chiller.
