Excellent Filter System!Dec 28, 2010

I've had this filter now for a little over three months and couldn't be happier with it's performance. I have a 30 gallon fresh water tank with 10 fish, tetras and platys. My prior filter system was two Fluval C2 over the edge filters, each rated for up to 30 gallons. These filters had significant bypass and could not keep up with the bio load. I constantly had hazy water and ended up with a severe bacteria bloom which clouded the water so much you could not see through the tank. The bloom had been going on for about 4 weeks when I installed the JBJ EFU-35 4 stage canister filter system. Within 3 days, I had crystal clear water. The water has remained crystal clear for the past three+ months. My maintenance consists of a 33% water change once a month along with a thorough vacuuming of the sand, cleaning algae off the glass and ornaments and cleaning of the filter and replacement of the filter pads and carbon bag. Mid month I clean algae off the glass and ornaments as well as remove any dead plant material. I have had no problems with water born haze or algae since I started using this filter. I believe that the combination of the very low bypass design, large surface area filter media and the inclusion of the UV lamp are what is making this filter so effective. I have used several over the edge filter systems on similar sized tanks over the years and find them to be marginal at best. In my opinion, a canister filter system is the only way to go for medium sized tank systems. This is one of the only affordable canister filter systems to include a UV source. Highly recommended!
