very nice additions!Dec 24, 2005

i came across one of these when i bought my rats' cage which was actually a chinchilla cage.. the leaping ledge came with it.. and boy do the rats love it.. they love sitting on it, sleeping on it or taking a snack up there and munching to themselves.. so i ordered two more.. even more fun.. the rats love jumping on these and it gives them plenty of vantage points where they can get fresh air and see whats going on, or have the privacy to relax and lounge away from the others when they need a break.. great for climbing onto multi levels and also safe for them to casually gnaw on.. i highly recommend them

Love it when it stays putJul 01, 2010

This ledge is a great extra spot for my chins to rest or sit and watch the world. The only issue I have with it is that the bolt on the back gets loose over time and eventually the shelf falls off, so you have to remember to tighten it once in a while (I found a thin piece of plastic or wood between the outer bars of the cage and the first washer make it much more steady - I used an unused plastic paint stirrer trimmed to fit since it already had holes in it). There is another version of this item by this brand, called a Sleep N' Ledge, and that has 2 bolts with washers to hold it and is much more stable - I bought that one as a second ledge for my chin cage and I like that one much better; it is also wider and fits 2 chins on it, preventing fights over a favorite spot (which of course is wherever the other chin is). Over all a good buy, but you might have to work with it to find ways to keep it where you want it.

don't judge a book by it's cover...Sep 18, 2010
By G. Conley when i first opened this i was kinda bummed out. it's super easy to make yourself and not too pretty to look at. nonetheless, i stuck it in my chin's cage and he's always jumping up on it now! when he's not on his chin-chiller or stuffing his face, he'll be up here. even better, i see him chew the wood on the bottom of it, so he's keeping his teeth filed down. so the beginning disappointment i had about its design ended up making me happy since he's nawing it down! i do see what people mean about a loose screw though. my chin's a porker, so i check it everyday to make sure he doesn't knock the whole thing down. the last thing i need is an injured chin!
Solid ledgeJan 01, 2012
By rothnic Mounts no problem. However, if you have the thinner wire cages it might require that you add a larger backing so that the weight is distributed better across more rows of wire. The ledge is solid wood and has been holding up great. Our chinchilla loves the ledge and jumps on/off of it all the time.
