When this product was delivered it came well protected. And as soon as I open the box and I pull the cage out the box,the cage was almost done. I did not had to worry about puting the cage together so by doing that saved me a lot of problems. This is a very good size cage that even a gig rabbit can be in it.It is very easy to put together specially if your childem are the one's that s going to be cleaning ...

Good cage...but the tubes?Jun 09, 2009

This cage over-all is well built, very roomy plenty of space for a hamster..--BUT the tubes are very hard to keep together..I had to tape them to keep them from falling apart. My suggestion if you get this cage is to keep enough tubing so your hamster can crawl up to the second story,(throw away the rest of the tubes!) and lower the wheel to ground level so he/she can just jump on the wheel. It is a great cage otherwise, your hamster will enjoy living in it!

I ordered this product after my hampster finally chewed through one of the metal bars on her small cage. I acquired this cage and hampster from a friend. The next cage, I wanted it to be bigger and more room for her to run around and explore. I found this on Amazon and thought it was reasonably priced and figured I would give it a try. It arrived in a timely manner. It took my hampster a couple days to get aquanited to her new home but she loves it now.
The only negative is it is a bear to put together. Not the cage itself, but the tunnels she climbs through. I finally ended up taping them together.

Large hamster home for a teddy bear syrian hamsterNov 15, 2009

I purchased this hamster cage for my daughter's syrian hamster, which we think is a teddy bear, but not sure. I was looking for a larger cage becuase she no longer fit in the Habitrail tubes that we had purchased when she was a baby. I felt sorry for her that she couldn't climb or have any fun in her little Habitrail cages. I read somewhere that the tubes in the Marchioro cages are larger and it's true - they are much wider and now our little hammie can climb around.
I really like this cage because it is very large. It is larger in person than it looks on the web. I have attached the wheel from one of our Habitrail cages because it is bigger. It attaches simply to the wires. There is so much space on the first floor and with the addition of the second floor, this cage offers our hammie plenty of play room. She also likes to climb the bars and to jump from the second floor down to the first our climb on top of her wood house to the second floor. She gets so much exercise in her new home, plus her time playing with my daughter or in her ball in the house!
Our hammie weighted 8 oz at one point in one of her old cages. She wasn't as interested in running in her ball and it seemed as if she had really tired out. Now with this cage, she's getting more exercise, she's slimmed down to 7 oz. and she runs like crazy in her ball in the evening like she did when she was six months old! I really think this home has improved her health.
The cage is easy to clean with one caveat: the tubes! As other people have said, the tubes are a little tricky to put together. The key is to look for the matching grooves. They do not adjust like the Habitrail ones do so you have to think carefully when putting them together. It you put them together and realize you have one turning the wrong direction, you can't just twist it into place. You have to remove that piece and try again. However, I have gotten them in place and I just leave them there. When I clean the cage, I set the whole top piece on its side to protect the tubes. You will want to do whatever you can to never move those tubes again!! It's a small price to pay for nice, larger tubes.
I also like that you can attach so many things because of the bars and the height. We had a little hammock for our hammie hanging nicely (until she chewed it to shreds!) and those seed bars hang nicely. THey hang high enough that she has to work a bit to get them. The little chalet that comes with it is nice too. It comes with a lot of attachments. Unfortunatley, the water bottle looked like a great design but mine leaked so I used an old one we already had. There's a little seed dispenser also but I prefer the cermanic food bowl that we already had. The seed dispenser just spread seeds all over the floor below the cage!
The cage is not too big that an adult can carry it around. It would be took large for a 10 year old to carry. There are three doors to the cage which makes it easy to make adjustments althought I clip them shut just in case. Our hammie has been able to open doors in the past! THe bottom "pan" of the cage has a nice height to it so that bedding doesn't get thrown out.
Overall, this is a wonderful home. THere's lots of space for activity, it's fairly easy to clean and I love the larger tubes. I truly believe our little hammie has more energy and spunk because at night, there is a lot for her to do. We've had three other cages so far (two from Habbitrail and one homemade) and this is the best. I wish we had saved our money and bought this one in the beginning. Oh well, we learned!
ONe more thing, this came really fast and in good condition! I would purchase from this seller again. No problems! Hammie says "thank you!"

Not perfect, but the best cage I could findOct 21, 2010

A lot of the other reviews here hit the nail right on the head. There are quite a few cons, but the pros outweigh them in my opinion.
PROS:
Very spacious.
The bin has tall sides which minimizes how much bedding falls out.
My little guy loves it and seems way less stir crazy and aggressive than hamsters I've seen in smaller cages.
CONS (with a few tips):
The tubes can be tricky to connect, but leaving them connected when you wash them will help with that.
The accessories that come with the cage are pretty cheap for the most part, though that's true of almost any cage you buy. I recommend getting a better water bottle and a much better wheel like the Wodent Wheel (I personally didn't even bother with the second level wheel with all the extra tubes. Save the tubes for the yellow platform. This also creates a lot of extra room and makes it easier to pick up your little buddy.)
Those blue clips to keep the platform in place are TERRIBLE. Tip: Rather than pulling the tab straight out to disconnect it, SLIDE IT TO THE LEFT OR RIGHT. It seems like it won't budge that way, but you'll break way fewer clips if you do it that way. OR just keep the platform connected and wash that with a soapy paper towel.
Cleaning it can be tough since the bin is so huge, but that's no big deal if you have a bathtub or access to a hose.
I put a clip on the door next to the yellow platform since it's right at face level and I've seen some hamsters pull that tab up with their mouth and escape. He hasn't tried, but it's a good precaution if you have an escape artist.
It's too bad there aren't many good options out there and this cage is certainly not cheap, but it's the best I found after some pretty thorough searching. I recommend it!
