Great food my ferrets have never been happierApr 11, 2011
By Jeremy May I have been using this food for 4 months. I wet it for my ferrets and they love it. My biggest ferret has actually come down to a normal weight. When i grab the dish they are all hyper for the fresh food. Wetting it is a tiny bit of a chore but its worth it (you don't have to either).

Nice UpgradeDec 11, 2011
By Britt I have been feeding my ferrets Marshall Premium since they were babies. I have tried other foods with higher protein contents (as a higher protein content is in theory, better for ferrets), but they did not digest them well. I was a bit concerned about switching to Marshall Select, as in the past higher protein content equaled more digestive issues for my ferrets, but their poops have never looked better. They seem to enjoy the food a bit more as well. I should note that my ferrets are both Marshall Farm ferrets (so perhaps they digest this food more easily as it's what they're raised on, and so were their parent's parent's parents, etc). By the way, do not let the previous reviewers deter you, this food will not kill your ferrets.

I think this may have been a bad choice....Oct 22, 2011
By R. Flowers I bought the Marshalls Chicken Flavor to give my ferrets some variety. We have (had) three, William, Wink, and Daisy. At first William and Daisy wouldnt touch it. Wink eats everything so she dug right in. I changed William and Daisys food daily for 3-4 days before they started eating it, I had run out of the regular Marshalls so I couldnt mix it and ween them gradually. Their food was emptied daily and replaced with fresh so they wouldnt be eating stale leftovers that had sat.
They had been eating it for about 2 1/2 weeks when we lost Wink on 10/8, then Daisy on 10/13 and William today, 10/25.
I would be curious to know if anyone else has lost their fur baby after switching to this variety. If we had only had one and it passed we would just assume it was just part of life but having lost three in three weeks I have to question it.
Granted I have no proof that the food did this but they were healthy happy animals and the food was the only change in their lives.
At this point I would have to say I wouldnt recommend this item.

I recently bought two ferrets from Craigslist and they came with everything they needed including this food! They seem to like it just fine but I add a dry catfood with higher protein content and a "cheap" dry ferret food mixed in with this. Mainly just to make their food go farther! This food is an OKAY quality with meat listed as the first 3 ingredients... I also like to add a small amount of ferretone just to make sure they get all the nutrition they need! This food is pretty expensive too(that's why I gave it four stars)and that would be the only con! So far, since getting the ferrets, they have gained a little weight and act happier and seem softer so IDK what did it but I know that they do LOVE this food!
Poor ferret food.Nov 18, 2011
By phiednate I knew very little about ferret diets where I first purchased my ferrets so I assumed that since this was the "select" diet it would be the best food I could get for them. However, after I did some research and learned what should be in a ferrets diet I found this food is a very poor choice.
From what I found, this food contains 36% protein, 18% fat and 46% carbohydrates. Ferrets are carnivores and should have food with a high content of protein and fat. From my research, carbohydrates can cause insulinoma in ferrets and lead to their death. The carbohydrates in this food might make it extra tasty but I am glad I looked into it before they ate this for too long. It meets the minimum requirements from the books I have read but I don't like the idea of giving my ferrets only the "minimum".
