Saved my guppy.May 10, 2011

I'm relatively new at fish keeping, so when my guppy spent all his time at the surface and at times struggling for breath it seemed, I tested the water with this oxygen tester and found that the oxygen level had dropped to about 4.5 ppm, below which is generally fatal to fish. So I went into emergency mode and got a power head pump with integrated air intake and in a day or so I tested the water again and it was just over 8 ppm, or normal. And the guppy was swimming along the top and the bottom again.
The reason why the oxygen went away was likely that my ever growing snail herd resulted in an even more ever growing bacteria population that consumed the oxygen out of the water while it was breaking down the snail waste (I know, too much information).
But without this kit I never would have discovered this problem, or verified that I had solved it.
Oxygen test kit reviewDec 24, 2011
By Barry Dawson The product worked fine for the purpose it was needed for the only down side was when the product arrived it appeared on one of the bottles that some chemical had leaked on to the bottle making the labeling unreadable for the bottle.
