This is an excellent book for the basics of dog grooming. It goes over
Canine Anatomy
Tools and Equipment-as well as what they are used for
Pre-work-Work done before the actual trim, to make the trim go faster and look good.It covers nails, ears, bathing and drying.
Clippers-holding the clippers,and preparing the coat to be cut.
Blades-
Brushing techniques
Scissoring, how to hold the scissors-sheer terminology.
Carding and Hand stripping.
Trimming the pads and feet
Mats
The book then goes over bathing and drying techniques. This section is set up according to coat types. Then continues on to the different breed cuts. This is sectioned off into the different groups of dogs, sporting, working etc.Everything from prework to detailed finished is explained here. Pictures are also shown.
The author saved the poodle for last. Showed about 10 different cuts for it. As well as about 8 different facial stylies. Feet, ear and tail cuts.
The author finished with drop coat styles and trimming the different tails.
You will not find creative hairstyles in this book, so if you are looking for something a little advanced and experimental you will not find it here. Excellent book though.You have a space to make notes, and the information is thorough.The pictures are helpful and the whole books is accesible. The table of contents is broken down into breed groups, so you are not looking all over for what you need.

This is a great book! I am a professional dog groomer and this book helps so much. If a customer is not sure how a breed standard but will look I use this book to show them and give them an idea. Also, I have used this for all of my first breed cut. Just the other day I did my first Brussels Griffon cut which I had never done and this book came in very handy. This book is worth every penny!

This is the most helpful groomer's aid I have purchased. I can set the book right on my table and follow the easy to read directions.

The book has detailed but accurate discriptions for show grooms, but can be modified to suit pet trims without loosing the character of the breed. Its a great book with lots of information about the breeds and the goal of each trim was to clearly enhance each breed according to its standard.
