5The product advertised is great, I received a slightly different one, Resolved the same day! :-) Thanks Again!Jan 27, 2010

The EVSCO version of Nutri-Cal brand product advertised is absolutely awesome, unfortunately I received a slightly different version...same manuracturer but a slightly different "quality line" after expressing my dis-satisfaction with receiving the 'similar' but not identical product, the staff at EntirelyPets was more than helpful in resolving the situation all in the same day!

So I applaud EntirelyPets & their staff for their help in resolving this issue quickly. Anyone who has raised puppies or rescued an struggling puppy or dog understands how important it is to have a product that works, a product that stimulates their appetite and provides superior nutrition, and to have that product in a timely manner.

Thanks again to EntirelyPets for responding quickly - everything was resolved the same day even!!!

For anyone interested: my issue revolved around my very positive experience useing the "EVSCO" line or version of the brand name product called: Nutri-Cal.... The EVSCO version of Nutri-Cal is in my opinion, a wonderful product, i.e. even a puppy that is struggling or not keeping up with litter mates, etc. will nearly take your finger off when offered the EVSCO version of Nutri-Cal.

I made the mistake of ordering a case of the "Tomlyn" version/line of Nutri-Cal from Revival Animal Health, by mistake what I mean to say is that we had to force even a healthy vibrant puppy or even the adult dog to ingest it... they would them spit it out like it was poison... at first we thought maybe we had a bad batch... after all, the manufacturer was the same. What I have learned since is apparently the manufacturer makes many "versions" or "variations" of Nutri-Cal depending on the venue or customer group that is targeted.

We suspected a difference after comparing the last blue & white striped tube we had of the wonderful EVSCO version of Nutri-Cal to the white tube of Tomlyn version of Nutrical. The EVSCO has a higher fat and slightly higher protein content. While the ingredients listed are the same, it would appear that the percentage is altered depending on the quality/expense allowed depending on the "version" or "variation" that is being sold. The awesome EVSCO version smells a lot like fish sort of a salmon or cod oil smell - it may seem like a small issue, but it could mean the difference between a puppy that thrives when it might not otherwise despite all your best efforts.

Some dogs might eat any version of Nutri-Cal, but one that is struggling or needing rescued will need the BEST version, and in my experience, that is the codliver smelling: 34.5% fat & 7%protein "EVSCO version of Nutri-Cal" !!!!
Works like nothing else!!!
So again I applaud EntirelyPets & their staff for their help in resolving this issue quickly.
Thanks again to EntirelyPets for responding quickly and being so understanding about the importance & urgency!!!
Thank you! Thank you!
:-)

1Unfortunately my cat won't come near this.Nov 06, 2011

We've been using the EVSCO nutri-cal purchased from our vet for about 4 months now for our 11 year old super picky eating cat. She has always struggled to stay even at a very low-normal weight, though we've never found an underlying medical cause for this.

The EVSCO version, which is pictured above (but which is not the product you receive from this distributor) she was relatively indifferent to. She didn't want to eat it, didn't like the smell, but if you smeared it on her paw she would clean herself and ingest a small amount. We did this twice a day and after 4 months she gained a few ounces. Since we'd been using a sample size tube, we ran out and decided to order some more through Amazon.

The VETOQUINOL version, which you will receive although it is NOT pictured here (but is listed in the product title): our cat really hates this stuff. I know the ingredients are the same, but I can't discount the difference in her willingness to actually eat it. First, the amount we were told to feed her (1.5 teaspoons 2x a day because she needs this to gain weight and not just to "supplement" a normal diet) is just huge! I can't imagine how anyone could get a cat to consume that much gel twice a day. We are lucky to get a pea size blob 2x a day into her fur so she can't shake it off, and then have her lick it long enough to assume she's gotten perhaps half or more of that in. Often times she will fake "limp" on that foot and hold off cleaning it as long as she can because she doesn't want to eat it. As we got to about week 3 in her 2x a day supplementing, she started to run and hide when the tube came out. We also tried direct feeding her by mouth, but if you can get enough of this into the cat's mouth to be effective, there's enough to spit solidly out - which she does.

I think we've decided to look for a high calorie dry cat food instead and sprinkle some into her regular dry cat food and hope she gets a few kibbles of the high-cal food in when she eats. She's back at her pre-supplement weight now, unfortunately, though with such small gains I can't be sure she'd even really upped her weight significantly with the EVSCO version.

I don't disbelieve that this supplement works well when the animal is willing to consume it, but if your cat is a picky eater I wouldn't count on this turning the tide for them - and please note even the minimum quantity of gel you will have to get them to ingest on a daily basis just as a supplement - it's a huge amount.

5I would not be without thisAug 24, 2010

I've been using nutrical for my dogs for a while now. It's an excellent product to have on hand when a pet isn't eating well or is finicky with their food.

To help clear up potential confusion there are 3 brand names to this product: EVSCO, Vetoquinol and Tomlyn. EVSCO and Vetoquinol are the same company I think and their ingredients are the same. All my dogs like their nutrical product and even my EXTREMELY difficult older dog likes it and it helps her eat her food after I give it to her.

I bought them the Tomlyn senior brand and as another reviewer wrote, it was like feeding them poison, they drooled and spat and hated it. The ingredients are also not the same, similar but not the same, it was also less viscous and dry.

So, I highly recommend the EVSCO and Vetoquinol brands of this product. Nutrical is not really a vitamin supplement as much as it is an appetite stimulant and calorie booster. It's great for pets who need to put on a bit of weight and for hypoglycemic dogs (dogs who are prone to drops in blood sugar), or if your dog is off their food. If your dog is hypoglycemic a bit of this rubbed into their gums will help. It also contains some omega-3 fatty acids, smells (and presumably tastes) of fish and I think it's safe to say that it will be tolerated by most dogs since my (very hard to please) dog likes it!!!

5Newborn puppy and kitten LifesaverMay 19, 2010
By Randy S. Cole "Rock Hunter"
Don't be fooled by inferior products like Tomlyns Nutrical. Evsco Nutrical is the REAL DEAL. You cannot get it at petsmart or petco. It has saved countless newborn kittens and puppies since I began rescue work in 1980. A pea sized drop two or three times a day will keep a newborn alive all day. Or mix it with warm water - about 1 Tbsp of Nutrical to 3 ounces - and put it in a little bottle and the babies drink it like mama's milk. That way they do not get dehydrated. I love this product. Thank you, Amazon, for selling it, Janet

5Nutri-Cal reviewFeb 14, 2010
By Kenneth Rivera
Was shipped to me real fast. Exactly as described. My cat loves these vitamins, great for a malnutritioned cat. It was also a lot cheaper then buying it at a Vet($15.00 a bottle). I will buy more on amazon when I run out!
