4Great, but strange!May 19, 2011
By Erin Flynn
I purchased this for our annoying new rescue cat - as adorable as he is, he demanded food every morning at 4am, without fail. I have no idea how his previous owners organized his food schedule (who would feed a cat at four?), but I was getting pretty tired of being woken up by constant meowing, headbutting, and running back and forth from the closet (where the food is kept) to my head.

Fortunately, amazon was here to rescue me, with this automatic feeder! I don't use the ice part, though I suppose that's handy - I use dry food for him, so no worries there. I mostly purchased it because this one was the smallest automatic feeder I could find, that was also not very tall - I wanted to place it on a certain shelf in my closet that the cat could access, but the dog couldn't.

It works great, most of the time! I am highly entertained by the feature that allows you to record a message to alert the animal that it's food time, and change it every 4 days (when it's refill time anyways). Sometimes it doesn't open at the correct time once I've set it, which is annoying for both me and the cat, but that generally only happens on day 1 after I've refilled it - so it could be user error or a weird quirk. Generally, however, it works wonderfully, and I do recommend it!

5Works great!Jul 15, 2011
By revlaura
Have owned the feeder for a week now, and it works great! The timer is a bit confusing, but once you've followed the instructions through once it is easy. They don't mention in the instructions to make sure you set the feedings for am or pm... caused some confusion the first day. A few other notes:
-The bowl is larger than I expected. It slows down my 12# cat, which is a good thing, but if you have a small cat, it may have a hard time reaching the food.
- There is a slide cover that closes off the exposed compartment, so there are truly 4 timed feedings in this bowl.
- the alarm that alerts your animal to the newly exposed food is a recorded message of your voice, and it replays 3 times. This is great for the daytime, but at night our cat sleeps in our room. We have a noise machine, so she doesn't hear the alert and still wakes me up at 4:30am for food. For now, I walk her out and show her it's there, then stumble back to bed. Hopefully she'll pick up on it soon!
(also - the timer only goes in 1 hour increments, so if you need to feed on the 1/2 hour, you'll need to program the clock to run 30 minutes fast or slow, and then all of the feedings will be on the 1/2 hour...)

5A Godsend for Food Obsessed CatsSep 24, 2011
By Benjamin P. Alvord
I'm actually buying a second one of these right now. The last one worked great for about a year and a half, but I got it wet last week and the electronics broke.

That said, this thing is my savior. My cat is completely food obsessed and used to wake me up at 3 am every morning demanding food. I bought 2 or 3 other, cheaper, automatic feeders - he figured out how to open them up within literally 10 minutes of me setting them up. This one, he can't open. It's awesome.

It takes some figuring out in terms of how to actually set the time. I would give it less stars because of this, except it's literally the only automatic feeder on the market that works for my cat. The other ones I bought were frankly pieces of crap.

Buy it for your food obsessed kitty!

3Not Sure yetOct 20, 2011
By Carrie Bevans
I don't know if this needs to be returned or like the other reviews it work some times and other times not. I don't know if this is some type of quirky design or exactly what the problem is. My cats have gotten quite used to it and respond very quickly to when the message goes off. I am gone 12 hours out of the day though and I leave the house not knowing if it is going to work or not work. I would leave food out but the one cat has to be restricted on the amount of dry food.

3Feeder OK for Short Term Use -- Longevity in QuestionOct 14, 2011
By Terry Smith
I bought this device as a quick stop gap to a real feeder (read that as super feeder). So far, after a month, one of the alignment tabs has broken. Honestly, the product is very cheaply manufactured; but if I get a year out of it I will feel lucky.

Pros:
--Works most of the time
--Reasonable substitute if you are only gone a few days; beyond that, you need something more long term.

Cons:

--Flimsy construction
--Confusing timing system; I have seen a few times where it didn't run as planned.
--Because you have to re-load it in my case every couple of days, you have to be very careful with getting to the food trays, or you start breaking alignment tabs. I think this could be remedied by allowing you to advance the trays manually and then restore programming.
