I bought twoJan 17, 2010

"My Soap Marks"
I bought and returned many cages for my dwarf hamster before settling on this. I bought two and connected them with some of those tubes. My hamster loves it. He has a bedroom and a kitchen/gym. There are some good and bad qualities.
The good: -easy to assemble and clean -dark bottom for hamsters -chew proof metal -top and side door -roomy -high sides so very little litter falls through
The bad: -water bottle is useless (upgrade to a Crittertrail with a metal spout) -wheel is noisy (another upgrade) -the hanging nest swings and my hamster cannot sit in it, which is OK since it feels like sand paper -food bowl is OK, but I got a larger one so he can sit easier inside

good cageJun 26, 2010

This is a great cage. My dwarf hamster Teddie loves it! There are only a couple things to replace and make a better habitat for my hammie. It is very easy to clean and put back together afterward. here are the things to upgrade and what I did.
-The nest-I got an Itty-Bitty igloo -the water bottle-CritterTrailsells replacements with spouts titled deluxe water bottle -The dish-i used a ceramic one from my house -The wheel-It's a nice, safe wheel, but it rattles and I keep the cage in my room so I got a Silent Spinner
I also got a lazy lookout and attached it to the cage to make it better. Teddie loves it and goes up often. I recomend that product too!
One more thing, if you are looking for the perfect cage, STOP because it is right here!

Nice cage -Dec 16, 2008
By Elizabeth Smallbone This cage is a good cage for someone who knows a little about hamsters! My Robo Dwarf felt instantly at home as soon as I put her in this cage. She loves it which makes me happy! Though the water bottle DID not work so I got a new one as soon as I could... She couldn't drink from the one given in this cage! The only other problem I have with this cage is that the crittertrail fun-nels have trouble staying in an upright position.. My dog can easily knock the fun-nels off.. Luckily my hamster was never in the additions! :) Overall this has been a very good cage for my hamster.. Merry Christmas!

Great cage if you put the wheel in a different place!Jun 06, 2011

I bought this for our Russian Dwarf hamster, Percy as a replacement for the same cage just an older version. I liked that unlike its predecessor, this is built alot more sturdy. They did away with the flimsy plastic tabs that held the old cage together. The water bottle is alot better on this one too. The angled spout makes it easier for smaller hamsters to reach. (My hamster could barely reach the spout on the other one) The deep litter pan is nice because its very easy to clean. The depth also allows you to fill it with plenty of litter if you want your hamster to be able to burrow. (I know Percy, like most dwarf hamsters, loves tunneling under the litter.) I like the nest, though the hanging part is useless. Not sure why they would think a hamster would want to climb into a swinging nest. My hamster tried jumping in it and was terrified when it came swinging back at him! We're talking rodents here, not birds Super Pet! I took the hanging clip off, stuffed some bedding in there and now my hamster loves it. Love how big the food dish is too as it allows him to jump right in there and forage around.
I saw a lot of complaints in previous reviews about the water bottle and the wheel and I wanted to share some knowledge about those two components. The water bottle won't leak as long as you make sure the rubber piece inside the cap is firmly pushed into the bottle when you go to screw on the cap. You'll see a few drops come out but then it should stop. If it doesn't you need to re-tighten the rubber piece and/or cap. And also make sure the spout is pushed all the way inside the cap.
As for the wheel, I too noticed how noisy it was. The instructions recommended putting some cooking oil on the piece that attaches to the wheel. We did that and then we started noticing a different noise that was a grinding noise! Finally figured out tonight what was causing it. There are these too vertical plastics pieces on the inside of the litter pan on the front middle and the back middle of the cage. If you put the wheel in the middle on the back side as instructed, the wheel will grind against those plastic pieces! It's a design flaw on the cage and I don't know why they would put those plastic pieces where the wheel should be. If you put the wheel on the back right corner it shouldn't make any noise.
As long as you pay attention to those two things the cage is great.

Wheel small for gerbil, not a great water bottleJan 05, 2010

This cage made a nice "extra" room to attach to our existing gerbil habitat, and is a nice size for travelling as well. Easy to clean since bottom pops off. However, the water bottle does not work very well and it only came with one top-cap, so kind of a pain to cover the water bottle hole if you use a different water bottle. Also, the wheel that comes with this is much too small for a gerbil. It is probably fine for dwarf hamsters. For gerbils, I recommend this 6 1/2" wheel: [...] (but it won't fit well in this cage, unfortunately)
