Only good for temporary residence... does not hold humidity or temps wellJul 15, 2010

For my first week as a new hermit crab owner I used this habitat. It is easy to setup even for a child. It housed two medium sized hermit crabs (purple pinchers). They seemed to enjoy climbing in here at night... but the reality is that my crabs were not comfortable with the substrate and would rather rest atop the wire-frame or hanging onto the side window.
Hermit crabs require separate dishes for dechlorinated water, dechlorinated salt water and food - three total... that does not leave very much room in here once those are placed inside. The dish which is included is a drowning hazard for smaller hermit crabs if filled with water.
Another complaint is that this habitat does not maintain humidity and temps very well because of the openings on the sides. The openings are also a drawback because crabs spill sand outside the habitat as they climb along the sides.
Since the enclosure is completely plastic, it's not compatible with any conventional heaters as well.
Ultimately, I went with a 10G glass tank and eco-earth substrate. I found that setup much more carefree because humidity and temperatures are more easily controlled. The sponge, palm tree and mister make fine accessories that I still use with my 10G tank although I may replace those as well.
Since getting a 10G tank, I will not use this unless I buy a new hermit crab from the pet store; I would fill this with eco-earth as substrate and use it to transport and temporarily quarantine a new hermit crab before addition to the colony. If anyone is even moderately serious about having a hermit crab as a pet, they will not consider this or anything similar to this for permanent residence. Any 10G tank setup is obtainable for similar cost.

I love the size and toys this home has. It is easy to clean with the removable top. I do not use the food dish that came with it. I added a pool. Plenty of room for extras like spare shells and additional toys! It is great!
very good for beginnersJan 22, 2012
