Good wheel, but my hamster uses it as a chair.Jan 19, 2012

I liked the hamster wheel because it was low cost and it seems to work well, but my hamster doesn't know what to do with it and uses it as a chair. I don't necessarily think that this is a product design flaw, but I guess I didn't realize that I would be buying her a $4 chair for her cage. As long as your hamster/mouse is fairly smart, I would recommend this product because it is cheap, seems to do the job, etc.

This is a good wheel for my robo dwarf hamster, she loves it and runs all night! the only problem is that it squeaks after about a day of running, but i have found a sulution! if you would like to know it, comment please.

this wheel is the best i've found; stable, won't pinch their legs, great footing from the tight mesh surface vs typical bars.

This wheel is perfect for a small cage, as it can hang on the side of the cage. My two mice run in it constantly, and it doesn't squeak or make irritating noises like other wheels tend to do. I did grease the contact points where the wheel connects, just to be sure it ran quietly. :)

Good points:
-Spins smoothly
-Hamster comfortable using it
-Runs quietly for the first month or so
Bad points:
-Develops a squeak
-Squeak gets louder until you oil it
-Squeak then comes back a couple weeks after oiling it
-Squeak then comes back a week or two after oiling it
-Squeak then comes back a week after oiling it
We have a nocturnal Roborovski. Robo's run FAST and they are nocturnal so a couple months after getting this wheel we started waking up to the squeaking with increasing frequency. Whether the old lubricant was cleaned off or not the squeak not only came back but it came back sooner and sooner.
I tried machine oil, silicone spray, a dab of non-toxic grease, cleaning with WD-40, and a dry graphite lubricant (pinewood derby car axle stuff). Most of them helped for a while but there was no solution.
We even tried making bushings out of coffee stirrers to eliminate the metal-on-metal contact but the sizing was off and those didn't stay on very long either.
Despite my best efforts I was unable to keep this wheel quiet.
