Effective internal UV for algae controlFeb 14, 2011

"No exaggeration-Honest reviews"
I work in an aquatics lab with hundreds of aquariums. We had a few reef tanks that developed a green water algae bloom (rare-I know). We also had a couple of large planted tanks that had a slight algae haze that we needed to zap. Four of these units were purchased and put into service. It has been about 6 months and all are working as advertised. No problems. saltwater or fresh-they work great. I especially like that they contain their own pump. Just place the UV unit in the tank and plug it in. No more running hoses to the main pump or filter system. When your problem is solved-just remove the unit from your tank. Simple. Effective.
Nice, but flawedJan 15, 2012

This is a nice, easy to install, unit - when the wimpy rubber seal ring is in good shape and not leaking. The seal ring is easily damaged by over tightening the plastic housing. The seal ring cannot be purchased separately - I called the company. It is only available with the not inexpensive quartz sleeve. Fortunately, the leaks I've experienced have been slow enough the quartz sleeve did not fill with water and electrocute the fish. I gave this four stars only because it performs well when its working. But the wimpy, easily deformed, seal is a significant flaw. Though I'm very careful not to over tighten the plastic housing, I never know if the seal has been damaged by the tightening. It requires periodically opening the unit and looking for water collecting inside the quartz sleeve. I've used this sterilizer for several years, but spent too much money for unnecessary maintenance.
JBJ Submariner ( TERRIBLE )Jul 12, 2010
By Goldeneye i bought this thinking it would be good but i was wrong. Oone night i went to bed like a week ago n the next morning all my fish where dead. So i was like how did this happen so i searched for the problem and came to this UV star. i opened it n noticed there was water in the tube that the uv light was in cause the seal was no good. So i lost over 400 $ in livestock for there faulty eQuipment.
Then on the other hand they do not garentee livestock loss for there equipment malfunctions they are a terrible company n now i have to invest 400$ more to re setup my saltwater tank
Do not buy this product
Tell all ur friend the same i dont want it hapenin to anyone else
