Nothing But Hy-Drive From Now On!Jun 30, 2010

The sealed mag-drive construction of this pump is the only way to go. After having one Little Giant leak oil into one pond and another Little Giant leak water into the motor housing and electrify the water, I'll never use anything but mag-drive.
I've had a number of ponds over the past 20 years, and currently have four, so I've had quite a few pumps. Although I've used the Pondmaster pumps for years, The Hy-Drive units, in particular, seem to be rock-solid, commercial grade pumps. I've never had problems with the Pondmaster / Danner pumps, until recently. When one of my Hy-Drive 3200's developed a thermal-cycling issue, I found Danner / Pondmaster easy to reach, pleasant to work with, responsive, and I received a replacement just a few days after returning the old one - important when your fish's health is at stake. While they may cost a few dollars more than a cheap, no-name overseas brand, they are well worth the money. I'll never use anything else!

The Danner pump works great. I am using it for a waterfall on my koi pond. It also is connected to a biofilter. I have had no problems over several months of use and it runs 24/7.

Purchased this pump in 2009 pump is still working strong used it on a sand filter and a pressure filter with no problems. This pump has a lot more head pressure then some of the sites give it credit. However I would say that the 4800 pump is for very large ponds had about 30 ft of hose and it still flew out of the waterfall box.

I use nothing else in my 5000 gallon Koi pond. I run two skimmers, for redundancy and for waterfall volume. I ran other brands before, but they were noisier, used a lot more power and didn't last very long. I run two Hy Drive 4800 GPH models on about 500W total. That's only 2/3 of a Horsepower to move 9600 GPH. Never have had a GFI issue with a Hy Drive, either. Caution, never run dry; make sure you dunk it thoroughly and fill the pump cavity with water before initial start. Because XXX happens, I also run the pump input power through a float switch tied to the side of the pump, just above the intake.
