Great WheelApr 08, 2006
By Kenz I own this wheel for my hamster and I have to say it's the best I've owned ever. It IS silent. But here are some tips to get the best use out of it.
1. Make sure the wheel's stand is on top of a layer of bedding on a flat level surface
2. After some time, the wheel will begin to rattle a little. This is because of the loosening between the colored and white part. To fix this, just put tape along that crack all around the wheel (make sure it's tight!)
3. Setting the wheel at a diagonal angle against a corner is sufficient for not letting the wheel move and the sides hitting the side of the cage.

Best Mouse WheelJun 01, 2009
By Frankie McDougal I've had this wheel for about 2 years and it is still operating flawlessly. It has an appealing look, runs silently, and smoothly, which is important for faster running pets.
Many people have complained about it breaking, but that has not been my experience. If you have a larger rodent you may try getting a bigger wheel. For reference I attached it onto a wire cage and have never used the stand that came with it.
Edit: Read this if your wheel is breaking. As my review already says I have had a silent spinner for over 2 years without incident. However now I have two mice, two cages, and, of course, I bought another silent spinner. It broke after just a few days. After some inspection I realized that the problem was that the new cage had thicker bars, which were putting pressure on axle.
I went back to the store and exchanged it for a new one. With a 5/64" drill bit I widened the opening slightly. Since then it has worked without incident.
I still feel this is a great wheel. Basically if the wheel is hard to attach onto the bars you should perform this simple modification to keep your wheel safe.

Good but not so goodMay 24, 2006
By Dimea I bought this wheel for my fat little hamster Teddy Pancakes and it worked really well for a while but after only about a month being in his cage the little plastic part of the axle that keeps it on the stand broke. I tried to hot glue it back together, that worked for about like and hour before the axle cracked in another place. So I got my hubby after it he used some industrial ties to close up the crack, THAT worked for another day and then the whole thing that attaches to the stand cracked almost all the way off. I really like this wheel because it looks cute and it is pretty much TOTALLY SILENT (only the stand makes loud noises as it hits the glass aqarium floor so if you buy this be sure to put a little extra bedding in and set it on top) but I wouldn't recommend it for hamsters it would probably work excellent for a mouse but the company just didn't design it sturdy enough for anything heavier than that.

Junk. The company knows it and doesn't care!Mar 08, 2007
By E. Broome My children have had a succession of hamsters over the last year. We bought a Super Pet Silent Spinner for $10. Within 7 weeks the plastic axel cracked beyond repair. Call us stupid or call us sleep-deprived, we returned to the store and purchased another wheel, and another, at six week intervals until one day my husband remarked, "How many of these things have we bought?!" We checked our receipts and counted no less than SIX spinners. Each one had cracked in the same place. I wrote a letter to the company's customer service manager. No response. Two weeks later, I called the company and spoke with their customer service manager. She said she'd get back to me by the end of the day. No response. Two weeks later I asked to contact the owner. I got the run around. This company clearly knows the product is trash. I have a vintage 1950s fan which has probably made several trillion rotations in its lifetime without a crack. Our Krups coffee grinder is still going strong after 17 years of daily use. What I'm trying to say is: the technology of spinning is not exactly new or difficult to achieve. Ultimately, this is a matter of product design, the integrity of materials -- and the LACK of integrity of business owners. Don't support this company unless you want to feel ripped off.

Good Idea, but Not DurableMar 31, 2006

I bought a Silent Spinner for my son's two gerbils in December 2005. After two months of use, the piece that connects the axle to the stand broke, making the wheel unusable. I took it back to the pet store where it was purchased, and they replaced it with an identical Silent Spinnner. It's now the end of March, and after two months of use, the new one also broke in the same place. Until the Silent Spinner company develops a more durable axle, I would not recommend this product.
There are two positive features of this product. First, it is safe for gerbils who run quite fast and might be injured by a traditional metal wheel with slots and cross bars. Second, as advertised, the wheel is very quiet when in use. But ultimately, the limited durability makes this product a poor buy.
