I bought one of these ledges for my rat cage, I have 4 male rats in the large cage and all the rats love sitting on this ledge and looking out. I plan on buying two more so they can use them as steps to get higher in the cage and put a bed hanging from the top of the cage with hooks.
My rats spend a lot of time sitting on this ledge, knocking each other off it so another can sit on it and using it as a jumping platform when chasing each other around the cage.
I highly recommend getting one or two for your rat cage, the rats will love them.

My pet chinchilla actually loves this ledge! She loves perching on things, so when I added this to her cage it became her new favorite hangout. There are similar ones that are wooden but I like this one because she can also chew on it (so its good for her teeth). Unlike some chinchillas she's not an intense chewer so the ledge will be around for awhile. I have different types of chew toys and this seems to be the ones she will actually chew. I recommend either the lava ledge or lava chews if you want your chin to get in some healthy chewing!

I recently bought a much larger cage for my two chinchillas and was faced with more room to add more toys to keep our two girls busy. I bought two of these, and placed them on the opposite wall of their shelf on that level, and placed a hanging chew next to the top one as an incentive to learn to use the ledges. After a while of exploring all the new toys, they eventually learned to use the ledges to hop up to the toy, and now use them regularly to get to the toy, or as a new route to bounce around the cage. I haven't actually seen them chew on the ledges, but it's obvious that they are also enjoying the fact that it can be chewed on. I will most likely be buying more soon to give them more areas to hop around to make the most out of the space in their new home.
I would recommend this to any chinchilla owner to help fight boredom, and give their chins a little more space to play in, and if all else fails it doubles as a different texture chew for them.

Both of my chins love to perch and chew on these magnificent lava ledges! In my two story cage I make it a habit of keeping at least one on each story! Helps keep their teeth grinded down with the chewing and provides them with a wonderful place to sit!

I have a playpen I put my chinchilla in at night to run around in. I bought 4 of these shelves to put around it so he could have places to jump and play. They are sturdy and stay in place no matter what he does, and hes crazy! One did fall once when he jumped on it, but I think it was because I didn't tighten it enough, I put it back on and haven't had a problem since!
