Good ProductSep 20, 2008

"fish dude"
Product works well. I use it for my betta tank. Flow of water can be a little strong for the bettas. Due to this, I wish this product had a way to control the water flow.

gets the job doneFeb 15, 2012
By scotty This is perfect for my 10 gallon tank, creates crystal clear water. Fits nicely in back of tank, light hood fits around filter, no problem...The flow is a bit strong, solved this by putting a piece of plastic in front of outflow ( wedged it in there between hood and filter). It's very quiet too.
Dependable Filtration SystemOct 16, 2009
By Shirley L. Litchford I have two of these filter systems now...they are dependable & do the job perfectly. I am very pleased with this product.

Cheap and quiet, but flawedMar 23, 2012
By Kevin Good: 1. Quiet 2. Cheap 3. Cheap refill media (Bio-Bag Medium 12-pack)
Bad: 1. Unfiltered water flows back over front where the "u" in the extension tube lifts over the front wall of the filter, even after changing the filter. 2. Changing the filter removes all of the beneficial bacteria, interrupting the nitrogen cycle and causing cloudy water and elevated nitrate/nitrite/ammonia levels for a week while the bacteria grows back. 3. Despite the 2 year warranty, Tetra's website customer support has not gotten back to me yet regarding a replacement for the leaking after a week.
This power filter came with a 15 gallon aquarium kit I got at Petco, and it worked quietly and flawlessly for the first month. I started noticing a small amount of water spilling back into the aquarium untiltered, so I assumed it was a clogged filter. Replacing the filter did not solve the leaking problem and caused my month-old tank into a new nitrogen cycle. Very disappointing.
I decided to upgrade to a Fluval C series filter on Amazon and will see if it works better.

Tetra Brand is no longer reliable...Apr 27, 2012
By William E. Turner Jr. I grew up on the Tetra brand. When I was a young boy with my first aquarium I remember Tetra. My tank, my filter, and numerous other products were all Tetra. Now after going through two PF10's I will not buy another Tetra product (except maybe food). Here's why...
We have a simple 5 gallon tank with a few fish in it. We don't overfeed, but I still wanted an upgrade from the cheap filter that came with the aquarium kit. Trusting the Tetra brand I purchased the PF10 in-spite of the recommendation of the guy at the pet store (They don't always know what they are talking about). Well, boy was I wrong. That teenage worker at the pet store was right. He was right. I allowed brand loyalty to cloud my judgment and I should have been willing to take his advice.
About 1 week into using the PF10 I came downstairs to where the tank is kept. The entire desk that it sits on was soaked in water. Numerous books, papers, and other important items were ruined. The seal in the back of the filter leaked. It is the part where the motor is slightly separate from the filter assembly. And for whatever reason it leaked all over.
Then everything became worse.
I called Tetra Care, Tetra's customer service line. I was on hold for 25 minutes only to finally hear it ringing and then it automatically hung up on me. I called back and was on hold for another 25 minutes. The lady was nice enough. She told me to e-mail a copy of the receipt to their customer service e-mail address and they would send out a replacement immediately. I asked for an e-mail to be sent with a confirmation and hopefully a tracking number.
In the meantime, I was keeping an eye on the fish while changing out 25-30% of the water every two to three days. A week passed and no e-mail confirmation and no filter. I called Tetra Care again and was surprised to be on hold for less than 5 minutes. But here's the catch. The lady said that while they were open they did not have access to their computers after a certain time and she could not look up any of my customer information and there was no way she could determine if the replacement filter had been shipped or not.
So, I had to call back the next day. I did and was greeted by another 25 minute hold time with the same result as the first time. I was hung up on before I even had the chance to talk to anyone. I called back. Another 25 minutes. And finally a person. The short of it was that my e-mail went to a different folder than what it should have and it was never seen. No one knew about it until they looked in a different place. After about 10 minutes they promised me that they would be sending out a new replacement filter. I asked for a tracking # and they said that I would have to call back in a week to receive that. And wait on hold for another 25 minutes...
We received the filter in about a weeks time. Installed and it worked for about 1 week before I looked over to see a puddle of water around the aquarium again. Same problem. Drips of water were coming out of the seal at the motor area.
Never again. I've learned my lesson. You cannot trust a brand. Tetra's product and customer service was abysmal. Now my fish are once again without a filter and I am stuck with not one, but two useless PF10 filters and two extra filter cartridges. All useless.
Thankfully the fish are doing well. I wish I could say the same for Tetra.
