5Worked for our baby platysMay 20, 2011
By K. Petty "KP"
We bought this nursery when we discovered 7 very tiny orange fish floating in our tank. It works perfectly. I took out all of the dividers and the 7 little fish have more than enough room to grow safely. I put a piece of plant inside the nursery in case they wanted to seek cover. You keep the box about an inch above water so the little fish cannot sneak out. Very pleased with this product.

2Newborn guppies can escape through the vents.Jan 13, 2011
By Ahmet Cuneyt Ucisik
The bottom and side vents are too large. I had noticed that before using; but I had a pregnant guppy which is about to give birth and I didn't have time to look for another nursery container. So I used it. The mother gave birth to more than thirty babies. While I was happily watching them, I noticed a baby trying to hide above a big leave at the surface of the aquarium. I caught it and placed it back inside this container. Then I noticed several others are outside. While I was catching and putting them back, smaller babies were falling out from the bottom and side vents. Finally, I transferred all of them to a food storage container. Those that I couldn't catch became live food for some of the adults.

5Excellent NurserySep 13, 2010
By Chris Johnson
The product was excellent although I did not use it with the mother giving birth. By the time I ordered the product and installed it, the mother had already had the babies. I simply took out the pieces and used the nursery as a single isolation container inside the main tank to keep the babies in until they are large enough to release.

3Not great but can't find anything betterJun 06, 2011
By Jon M. Stark "discerning consumer"
I put eggs and fry in, and they go out the vents and get eaten. Not what I hoped for. Once I wrapped it in nylons, I fared a little better. But it isn't ideal. Not sure what it's designed for, but this doesn't appear to be it. But I tried another design and they just don't seem to make one that works well for eggs and fry of small fish (dannios, gold barba).

2Floating plants work betterJan 12, 2012
By Barbara J. Mcfarland "artiste"
I bought this years ago when I had Mickey Mouse Platy's, I put the pregnant Platy in it but she became really stressed which is really bad for fish. I then found that just floating leafy Aquarium plants worked great (for ideas see links below.) A good idea though is to not count the babies for two reasons 1. They usually have a lot more than your tank can handle and 2. Some will get eaten, that is just what happens. But on the really bright side I had more than just the regular orange and black Mickey Mouse Platy's, I also had Platy's that were rainbow colored and Wow! babies were gorgeous and even with their tendency to eat them I soon ended up with more than I could handle but they were so beautiful.
Oh, and I also yanked off the things that you secure in the gravel because they seriously detracted from the beauty of the aquarium. It looked really pretty too, because it caused the light to filter beautifully down into the tank.
