Beware - it could kill your fishJul 23, 2010
By H. Inocian

It electrocuted my catfish... Why? Because they don't do quality control in China. Yes, you can feel how angry I am for killing my catfish which I've had for years. I wish I could give a negative star on this review. Never buy Tetra products, you have been warned.

Thermostat broke after 6 months of useNov 30, 2011

After 6 months of continuous use, the thermostat broke. The heater now constantly heats and does not shut down. As a result, the temperature in my 10 gallon aquarium went up from 76F to 85F. I also noticed the plastic insulation around the cord is not soft anymore but rather hard. I'm afraid it may crack anytime now, so I'm getting rid of it.

lasted lasted less than 1 weekDec 18, 2010
By markm I needed to replace the heater than I had used for 10 years, selection was low and so I purchased this one from necessity. It took it 3 days to equal out the temperature and then it completely died 2 days later and would not even light up.

Good for a 20 gallon tank...Jan 11, 2012

I bought this to replace a larger, non-submersible heater in my 20-gallon tank. Works well, as expected since I have the 5-15 gallon version from Wal*mart in some of my older tanks. Heats to precisely 78degrees and maintains the temperature without issue. Unlike the Wal*mart version, these have a green light to let you know that they are functional and it changes to red when heating. Recommended for tropical fish when you do not change the temperature often.

Ignore that green light that supposed to mean all okNov 27, 2011
By Frequent Amazon customer Shame on me for thinking that the pretty green light meant that the heater was happily keeping my tank heated. It certainly was red when I initially set up the tank. A month later I find the water is 64F and the green light is still on. Good thing I was still setting up the tank and only lost a few starter fish.
