My german shepherd/elkhound mostly doesn't like it because it's harsh and scratches his skin a bit too much, but it works very well on areas where he has long fur.

My long-haired pets never liked to be brushed with this type of flexible wire bristle brush. Use it on yourself, and you can understand why. Used gently, the bristles won't break the skin or make marks, but they do scrape the skin and leave a mild burning sensation. The brush is primarily intended to remove mats and tangles from short-haired dogs, and dead hair from dogs that have long flowing coats or harsh outer coats with wooly undercoats.
I use one of these brushes to fluff up a sheepskin wheelchair cushion cover, particularly after washing, as suggested by the manufacturer. With use, a sheepskin seat cover can get lumpy or matted, just as it does on the sheep! Gentle brushing with this wire dog brush is effective at realigning the long fibers of the sheepskin.
The rectangular portion of this "Medium" brush measures 2-1/2" x 5", and the wire bristle portion measures 1-1/2" x 4". The bristles are firmly attached to a soft "rubber" backing. The heavy-duty handle has a molded grip, and feels very comfortable in the hand.
