I bought this for my Worm Factory. Great stuff ... But... I didn't need the entire block for the next tray. And after making one heck of mess trying to hack, saw, chip away just what I needed --- it finally dawned on me...
Take and soak one brick in a bucket. Not to much water, keep adding water until it breaks apart easily. Spread a THICK layer of newspaper out. Dump the coir onto the newspaper and allow to dry. See what I mean about the water, because now it all has to evaporate. Once dry, place into a container, bag, box ... scroungers choice. Now you have that fancy expensive loose coir and life is easy again.

 This product killed my nephew's Gecko!!!Jul 15, 2010
My sister bought this product from a local pet store to line the bottom of my 9 year old nephew's Gecko glass tank (which was recommended by the store staff), and when the Gecko would eat his live crickets, some of this material would accidentally be ingested which caused fecal impaction and ultimately the Gecko's death!! My sister brought him to the vet, but it was too late and the vet confirmed this when she opened him up!! Please consider other materials for use with your reptiles!!!
And if I could--I would not rate this product one star, but the system would not let me rate it with NO stars...

I use this for my reptiles and it works really well. I just put it in a big container with water and it puffs up to a good amount.

I have a sulcata tortoise who has a indoor enclosure and did not want to use soil in the house; My tortoise digs and burrows into this product and loves it.
