EXCELLENTFeb 19, 2009
By Megan Gavinski These lamp stands (I bought two) are EXCELLENT. They are the smaller size of the two stands, but work like a charm. Height extends a bit over 24". I would highly recommend them to anyone in the market for purchasing a stand to use along with your clamp lamp! Very glad I purchased two.

No more worriesFeb 10, 2011

This is a great option if you worry about your light falling off the top of the cage or have a reptile that likes to climb like a gecko.
This way the light hangs securely and theres no worries. The bottom has a large base to keep the stand in place and you can adjust the height as well as secure the cord to it. The only issue is that you can only use zoo med lamps with it because other lamps don't have a thing to hang from.
Possible Fire HazardApr 10, 2012
By Quackers I bought this item to make my lighting for my turtles safer and less cluttered looking. The screws to secure the item just strip themselves. No matter which height or width you try to extend the stand's arms. Since it isn't secure in any fashion on it's own it very well could become a fire hazard with the 100 watt basking bulbs hanging over water. I did manage to rig the item up to be more secure however, it would have been nice to not have to spend time fixing a purchased lamp stand.

Some Modifications RequiredSep 23, 2011
By EiNST3iN I bought two of these and returned them.
The hand screws you use to tighten the stands at the correct heights and lengths don't hold tight at all. The stands will slip back down to a smaller size. And if you tighten the hand screws anymore then you strip them and make the whole stand useless. This was the same way on both of my stands.
Now I bought mine from Petsmart, so I returned them the same day. Before I even completed the exchange I pulled the new ones out of the box and gave them a shot to see if they were any better. Not at all. They did the same exactly thing. The metal is aluminum and the steel bolt eats the threads up.
People can comment "Oh, you shouldn't have tightened them so much." But trust me, if you don't tighten them enough then they dont stay at the height you need. It is really a bummer that these are the only ones you can really find to buy.
Now, if you want to go for these then my recomendation is some black electrical tape to help keep them at the neigh you want. Or drill a small hole at the height you want and put a black screw through it to fix it to its height.
Other than the issue with the bolts, they are really nice looking stands and definitely serve their purpose.

No instructions!Sep 30, 2011
By MaryA No instructions included with this item. Apparently you put it together using the picture on the box. Moreover, I'd like to know how to make it work with an extremely low-wattage Zoo Med Daylight Blue Reptile Bulb, which is for light only, not heat (for fire-bellied toads). It's an elongated bulb for use in horizontal fixtures. ::sigh:: This is turning into a major project for something that should be simple.
