this is all about automation. If you have a busy schedule and can't be around the terrarium all the time, buy this.
This goes well with my 25 gallon terrarium and a fogger.
it may seem complicated to program this but its actually really easy if you read the instructions i mean come on there are only 2 BUTTONS on this thing!
the lcd display is always lit which is cool too.
the probe that you put in the tank to measure humidity and temperature seems pretty accurate, i have 2 other independent thermometer and humidity measuring devices to make sure this unit is working properly.
one special note on how it operates:
i set the humidity level to stay at (90%+) when humidity starts to drop below (90 percent) it takes this unit about 2 FULL MINUTES before it turns on your fogger device (THIS IS NOT A MALFUNCTION to the best of my knowledge) but when the fogger is running, as soon as the probe in the terrarium senses that the humidity is met, it immediately shuts off the fogger
bottom line this unit is a bargain for the functions it performs.
a comparable controller that does humidity and temperature available from hydroponics suppliers would be more accurate over this unit however the price of those is generally over 200-300 dollars so this being under 100 dollars is great for automation on a budget!

it works but the display sucks, you can only view one setting at a time so you have to pick Temperature or Humidity (pick humidity and buy a thermometer.) I wish it could control a third device so i could plug in a fan to cool my terrarium if it gets too hot(It can do this but you have to unplug the heater.)
Don't pay full price not worth it.

I posted a review on this earlier and have to come back and repost with the accurate information. One person who commented on my post was 100% correct. It did take a while to get going and once it did, it works great and now I'm starting year 3 and it's still working great.
Sorry for the negative first post and I assure you I will get another one of these if/when the one I have wears out.
My crested loves it in his mini rain forest!

Perfect for what I neededMay 23, 2011

This product was exactly what I needed for my reptile tank. Seems to me to be pretty accurate, I still use analog thermometer and hygrometer just to compare. It does exactly what it's supposed to do and the setup is super easy. I would highly recommend buying this online from Amazon because every time I've seen it at a local pet store its on average $40 more.

I absolutely love this product and wish more hobbyist new about it. It does EXACTLY what is claims to do. I've found the thermometer and hygrometer to be accurate and reliable.
The design of this product has been sufficiently thought out, though there could be a few minor improvements. One notable improvement would be to the LCD screen, which is uncharacteristically flimsy. Another feature that would be nice is if it turned off the heat (instead of just sounding an alarm) if the upper limit has been reached.
All cables, switches and boxes are ruggedly built (with the above mentioned exception). I am so pleased with this product, I am likely to buy another one in the next month.
To summarize: great product for the price; rugged design; room for minor improvements.
