Great bulb, but u have to use it the right way.Mar 17, 2010

I have used these bulbs in a number of reptile cages for a few years. they always last over 8 months. except one one occasion where i had a short in a cage power supply. alot of pppl have premature burn outs. this could be from a few factors, poor power supply to the cage, too hot of an area, or wrong fixture. u cant screw it into any fixture and hope it works. u need a good strong stable current, and u CANNOT USE A RHEOSTAT!
i personally ove the bulbs, they have always done great. ad the act as both a UVB source and heat source.
i use them in 2 bearded dragon cages, a frilled dragon cage, and a enclosure for my 2 Argentine B&W Tegu's

This is the 2010 new version, Very low UVB 100 WattsDec 23, 2010

This is the 2010 new version 100w UVB lamp. I don't know why Zoo Med changed to very very low UVB output. I installed the lamp with Zoo Med Deep Dome, and used Solarmeter 6.2 UVB Meter to test the lamp. ZooMed PowerSun 100w with Deep Dome, 12" = UVB 35µW/cm², 5.5" = UVB 77µW/cm². ZooMed 10.0 UVB with Deep Dome 12" = UVB 37µW/cm². The ZooMed 10.0 UVB is higher then the ZooMed PowerSun 100w !!!
I suggest to not buy this 100w lamp.
I have already return this lamp, and change to used Mega-Ray SB 100w, Mega-Ray SB 100w with out deep dome in 12" = UVB 215 'W/cm2, in 29" = UVB 55 'W/cm2.

Always had good luck with theseDec 28, 2010
By Hoodoo Man While I know many people that prefer the T-Rex bulbs, I have almost always used the PowerSun UV 100W for my Tortoises (2 juvenile CherryHeads and 1 adult Russian) and I have had great luck with them. I started using them because they were much easier to find locally where I used to live, and have continued due to the price and reliability. I have never had one of these burn out early. The T-Rex bulbs I have tried have almost always burned out well before the stated life of the bulb. Anyone keeping tortoises should know that unless they are getting a LOT of time outside a self-ballasted MVB is the ONLY lamp that will provide both heat and the necessary amount of UVB for vitamin D synthesis, so the only question is which brand to buy. I do not have a UV meter, so I hope the earlier reviewer's comment about ZooMed lowering the UVB output in the 2010 model is incorrect, because I have always found them to be the best brand on the market.

barely gave off heat!!Apr 23, 2010
By Jayson Stohl I couldnt get a TRex 100W flood so i thought i'd give this bulb a chance and i was totally not satisfied. Only 13" from my tortoise, the Zoo Med bulb was only giving off 75 degrees of heat.
Within 2 weeks i had replaced it with the TRex which gives off 95 degrees of heat at the same distance and has a longer output of UVB.

burnt out in 1 dayJun 13, 2010
By happy gamer, not crazy gamer I purchased the powersun bulb because the trex 100 watt wasn't available. I planned to use this for a tortoise hatchling enclosure. I recieved the bulb on a thursday. Got the lamp (zoo med mini combo dome) on friday, and tested it out. it came on immediately, and was really bright. It didn't change hue as it warmed up as they say it will. I also made sure i didn't move it while it was on, it was hanging down directly over the cage. At 19" from substrate I was getting 85 degrees in an degree room. at 15 inches 90 degrees and at 13 inches 95 degrees. I left the bulb on for a total of one hour that day checking the temperatures under the basking spot depending on the temperature of the room. (at one point the room was 89 degrees, but the basking spot only went up to 97.
Anyway I turned it off friday afternoon, and when i tried to turn it on saturday it wouldn't come on. the room wasn't hot, and the bulb hadn't been used in a long time. i waited and left it on for 3 hours still no light or heat. then i heard a loud buzzing so i turned it off. tried to turn it on this morning (sunday), and it won't turn on again. it hasn't overheated, and the bulb didn't look to be deformed in any way. I have a constant stream of energy to the socket and all the other bulbs work fine. i have contacted the manufacturer and the company I bought it from, i'm still waiting to hear back. I didn't purchase it from amazon, I just thought this info would be helpful to anyone who is looking to buy a powersun bulb.
