1not what i thought...Aug 02, 2011

alright so i found this book it was by zoomed and it was very cheap, with shipping it cost about $6.00 so i thought why not looks nice!
now when i got it i was very upset... this wasn't a book it was a pamphlet! it only had 19 pages of information! well i read it anyways and only found 1 thing in it that i haven't read in the online care sheets. so let me save you the time and money and tell you what that was.
when choosing a leopard gecko make sure that they are alert clean with nothing around their eyes, nose, mouth, or vent. make sure that their tails are fatter then the space between their hips, if their tail is skinnier then that its most likely they will die from hunger and dehydration very soon. so remember fat tails are good. they should have all their toes, their mouths shouldn't have any puffy or redness around it.
and the thing that was very wrong in this book was it told you to use calcium sand for bedding/substrate which if you go online to any good care sheet or talk to any good breeders they will all tell you that sand is bad to use, (the book was trying to sell their sand product by telling you this.) because the lizards eat it by catching a bug and getting sand in their mouth or by licking the sand cause they want calcium, this causes impaction and will kill your little gecko friend, no matter what anyone tells you all the sands in the pet stores even the ones that say they are digestible can cause impaction so please don't use them, i have heard that children's play sand can be used if you feed the leopard gecko outside the cage, and give it good supplement of calcium. if you need to know what to do about anything with leopard geckos head to this site and read up on all the forums, post some questions they are very nice. here is the link

good luck!
