Before I got the filter hanger, I had the filter sitting on some stacked books and well below where I wanted it. Now I don't worry about the water lines reaching the water. I was concerned that the hanger wouldn't fit over the rim of the 'tank' I use since it is a very large plastic tote instead of a traditional glass tank. It fits fine and the filter still runs quietly with no vibration as it did before. *Adding to review several months later* The filter works MUCH better since it's properly positioned. It took me a while to realize that the water was staying cleaner. The only thing I've done differently is to move the filter. A great improvement!

This item came in the mail fast, took it out of the box & didn't really even have to disconnect any tubes, as the instructions stated. The little spacer is supposed to attach to the bottom, but really doesn't 'stick' to the filter too well. It works, though & I'm glad to be able to remove the old license plate that was partially under the aquarium, holding the filter. Easily turns your canister filter into a HOB. Of course, my previous review on the filter itself still stands. It does not work well for the bioload of one small turtle, but works great for the 10g tank I'm using to breed mollies for feeders.

The filter's hose is OK, I have a 30 gallon tank with two turtles about 6 inches. One of the problem with the filter is that the hose isn't long enough so it's sucking in water on half of the tank's level. The plastic looks like it can break easy when hanging it, but I have used it for about a week and no problems.

After playing around with my filter placement, it makes perfect sense to hang it on the side of the aquarium. I found it essential in completing my setup. Otherwise, the tubes would have been way too short and awkward to function. This hanger should come as part of the filter set, not sold separately.

I have 2 young RES and this filter really does the job of keeping the water in my tank clean. Although my tank still gets mild algae buildup on the rocks, the water remains clean, which is the most important thing. The hoses are long, which is great for larger tanks, and all of the parts seem to be very sturdy. The motor is easily primed and doesn't lose suction if the power goes out. This is a hardworking, quiet filter and great for turtle tanks.
